Why did Valve have to make you install this absolute piece of shit to play HL2? Seriously, I installed this and my computer performance went to hell. After I uninstalled this offending turd, my computer has been acting fine. And I only played the demo. Thanks for warning me Valve! I am actually now thinking about not buying your HL2 product now, wonderful as it is, because Steam is a ridiculous and bullshittastical "service" that essentially leeches 1/2 your system resources and caused me to have major lock-ups. Not cool. :smt009
I disagree. I am aware I am a bit of a HL fanboy, but still, STEAM has never caused any problems for me,
I've got to agree with Deathcoaster, Steam is a pretty impressive piece of software and I haven't seen the slightest performance hit since installing it over a month ago. Could the problems been related to the game demo itself, rather than Steam?
I'm with Einbebop on this one. I've played counterstrike for over 3 years and the game was always fine, no loading hassle no big lag etc.. And then all of a sudden Steam was needed to play the latest version man my game performance went to hell, loading became horrid and my ping times doubled not to mention the pain in the ass it became to get the game descently playable at a LAN party thanks to Steam. Some board members might remember my Steam avatar: And i stand by it because this is wat steam is for me i eventually even stopped playing CS because all good servers and player quit due to steam.
I always keep a copy of good ol' Counter-Strike 1.5 for LAN parties, plainly because it's much easier to just re-install HL and CS 1.5 on everyone's than to get that ATROCITY OF MANKIND to work on everyone's PC in a LAN.
It hink that, as with most programs in there early stages, STEAM did have some bugs to work out...but I've never encountered lag differences between WON and STEAM the way you describe.....for me I usually got a better ping through STEAM than I ever did on WON.
Yep, Steam is cool here, no problems at all, the only complaint I have is that I finished HL2 and am now waiting for HL3 ...Steam Rules!
I feel your pain. The ending totally eclipsed that unfinished piece of shit that is Halo 2 and the game was downright awesome, but still the fact remains that we have to wait another 2 to hopefully not 4 years for the next one. :smt022 Another reason to support it. You've got to love the fits Vivendi threw when they realized they might not get all of the profit on one of the biggest games of 2004. :smt043
