I need your help to make this happen guys! ::What makes the DC too noisy is both the GD-rom unit and the fan:: Solution 1 for the GD-rom unit according to this post on dcemulation: "Grease up the gears on the GD unit(...)" Solution 2 for the fan *here*. My issues: 1- I don't know where these gears are located at, I need a picture please. 2- I wanted to buy a fan with the sensor wire included. Does anyone know where can I get this? Thanks!
Gear greasing discussed here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22406 There's a link back to my site with pics of the gears. Shaver oil got better results than grease.
It's been awhile since I've played my DC, but the grinding gears in the drive is burned in my memory and echoes in my head. :-( At least it doesn't make an annoying high pitched sound.
It'd be a little weird to hear a DC without it's noises. I'd wonder if it was even doing anything at all. *Remembers hearing charms drop in my sleep in the Diablo II days*
The 360 IS too loud unless you install everything to the HD, Its like having a Vacuum cleaner on. Atleast its not a constant noise from the DC. Another thing you can do to quieten the DC is add some car sound deadening material (Dynamat etc) within the lid and that will dampen the noise even further.
Dreamcast is a higher pitched noise, maybe it's more annoying to some but I don't think there's any way it could be louder, in decibels, than a lot of the hardware combinations of 360s. My brother's and my friends non-HDMI boxes are atrociously loud with a disc in.
No complains with either of mine. I have to install 360 games to my HDD because my DVD drive sounds like a plane.
