Sticky drive tray on a 360

Anyone ever experienced this? About one in twenty times it will open. I just cannot figure out wtf. (i'm most likely just an idiot)

 

Clean down the sides of the tray with rubbing alcohol?

 

I think it has to do with the magnet on that keeps the disk in the tray is too strong and keeps the tray up, because the entire tray opening happens when a motor with a rubber belt spins a gear. But the belt just spins because the magnet is too strong. Not sure if this makes sense, but I assume you have a samsung drive?

 

Not sure, havent opened it to look honestly. I will check though and get back to you.

 

If it's a Hitachi or Samsung there is a good chance it's just the rubber band that opens and closes it.

Had this happen on the original Xbox with a Samsung, and it was the belt that had stretched and was slipping.

A small amount of silicone round the inside of the two pulley gears sorted it.
