So recently I took my 32x out from storage, and it does not want to work. It's displaying some odd symptoms. It will not play any 32x or genesis cartridges, but if I play a sega cd game, the video from the sega cd comes through the 32x fine. I currently have this all connected to a genesis model 2, but I ordered the cable so I could try hooking it up to the model one. I've already tried reseating the ribbon cables counteless times and i've also tried polishing all of the pin connectors in this monstorous set up. I don't know what else to do. Are there any 32x experts on here that could offer me some advice on getting this thing running again? I just wanna play tempo!
Dirty connector maybe? Clean both top and bottom cart connectors of the 32X, Sega CD does not need 32X to play and the video pass through will be unaffected if 32X has working power.
Honestly, I would just keep reseating it. The 32X is really finecky about when it does and doesn't want to work. I think it has to do with how the connectors function.
Well, the patch cable for my model 1 came in today. I connected everything together and it still didn't work. I may try it on my friends model 2 that has a death grip cartridge slot, but beyond that I'm thinking of giving it a rest for a while. I might try re-capping it later on to see if that changes anything. If I manage to get it working I'll post in here, I feel as though there isn't enough documentation on fixing 32x's that are stubborn beyond the ribbon cable reseating.
May not be useful, but have you cleaned the cart contacts on the 32X where it slots into the Mega Drive?
Pop the top off and check the ribbon cable connectors are clean and seated correctly. Check for leaking caps too (a common problem in the 32X).
