Sup? The barcode on the underside of my dreamcast starts with "DR". Here is a screenshot: Afaik it always starts with "DE" or "DU". Can someone tell me what the "DR" stands for? The product code (670-14248B) is also unknown to me. More pics:
Are you calling Esppiral a wanker after all he has done for the community? I didn't think immature name calling was allowed.
Very possible it’s a refurbished unit. Nintendo used different serials for refurbished units, so it’s not an uncommon practice.
This came up for discussion on Reddit and as stated there I think this may be one of the small number of Dreamcasts released for the South Korean market through Hyundai. The identification number on the modem was authorised for use by the Korean Communications Commission which, makes me believe this is a Korean unit. I haven't seen any other Dreamcasts from this region so I can't say for sure and I have no idea why it has a blue swirl instead of a red swirl which has generally signified between PAL or NTSC models... Ted.
That's the conclusion I came to as well, based in the modem model number, but of course they can be swapped around easily enough. The only reason a PAL console would make sense in Korea would be because they use 220V. When I was in Korea back in 2009 and 2011, I saw literally zero Dreamcast stuff, so I couldn't even say if there were specifically Korean games. Perhaps a PAL console for Korea was an attempt to stop imports from Japan? From my quick digging I've found PAL consoles with codes beginning "DO", presumably for Oceania. I guess if the console is Korean "DR" could stand for "Republic of Korea"? Does the console play NTSC games? Or, if you do open it up, does it seem to have any sort of modification? Does the console menu seem to be at all different from a normal PAL one?
That is an interesting theory. I know they released a lot of NES and SNES stuff through Hyundai as well as they had a long ban on merchandise coming from Japan due to their treatment back in WW2. I thought South Korea would also be NTSC due to America helping to build up their television infrastructure after WW2 and The Korean War similar to how it was done in Japan after WW2. According to here they are or used to be on NTSC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC I am making a Korean War mod for Battlefield 2 as you can see in the link of my signature. So I heavily research Korean history.
