So I've got this .gif running as a desktop background that is 302KB and it makes everything run really slow. Now normally I'd just say oh well I need memory or something. The thing is though when I have AOL running The thing works absoluetly fine and there's no slowdown whatsoever. I don't have to be connected to the internet or anything. It just has to have the sign-in screen minimized. Anyone have an idea why this is? Computer Specs: Pentium 4 (2.53GHz) 504 MB of RAM
I'm not too sure, but I believe its to do with the way active desktop uses Internet Explorer code so it can display HTML and such......and Active desktop has to be turned on for any file that isnt a .bmp I am sure. And as far as I am aware, AOL fscks with anything internet related on your PC. Solution - Change it to a .bmp and disable active desktop or get a decent ISP
Hmm, if you are running XP you don't need active desktop enabled to use a gif as a background. Control Panel - Display Properties - Desktop - Customize Desktop - Web, to disable this feature. I recommend not using active desktop ever under XP, it is not resource friendly. ^_^_^
I tried doing what you said AnalogWinter and it didn't work. In fact since I tried it a program shows up on the taskbar called HOTKEY KEYBOARD whenever I start my computer.
