    Hi,

I've recently replaced the laser in my Dreamcast with one I found on Ebay. Everything went well with the install. With the new laser, I found it would boot all the games it wouldn't boot before (Retail copies of Gigawing 2, Chu Chu rocket.). That is until I tried to put the lid back on. Everytime I have tried it, it gets out of alignment and starts hunting. 90% of the time it won't boot the game. Without the lid its pretty much 100% working. The lid is not pinching anything, it slides on without issue and no pressure. It seems like any pressure (and I mean any) on the CD bed causes the laser to be out of alignment.

Any ideas how to adjust this? I've got spare consoles, but I've spent a bit of time on this and feel like it should be able to get working again. I've played around with the adjustment screw (voltage?) but it doesn't seem to fix the issue.

    Thanks

I had this problem with my original Dreamcast and its original drive. It had something to do with the CD lid, not the top half of the casing. I never did fix it, as the console ended up getting destroyed by water.

check the lid open/closed switch is clean and not getting stuck and that it's working properly,

strip the whole thing down including the drive lid from the top part of the case and carefully put it all back together and hope for the best.

if you look at the top of the gdrom assembly and then the case, the black part of the gdrom assembly should be about 1mm or so higher than the drive bay

or at least thats how both my dreamcasts are.

might be worth checking the spindle is also on right and straight.
