strange Ntsc-Us MGS3 Box (blockbuster exclusive?) (EDITED) Hi, this last week-end, i did a run of video game renting centers in a town far away of me to search for good old video game tittles (i always do this in summer, but summer's getting late here, so i couldn't resist the apeal). I rarely find anything interesting in spread and well-known renting center such as blockbuster and all... the most intersting finding usually comes from old and nameless places, but it wasn't the case here. while walking into the video game zone of a blockbuster (i don't usually take the time to go into a blockbuster for video games, since they rarely have old games from the last eras.) i saw a weird mgs3 box art, well.... that wasn't weird, it looked a bit like the pal one, int the style anyway, and it had an orange tone. the game was used (read: rented) but was on sale, i thought it was because they've lost the image or something, and they found this boxart somewhere on the web, printed it and replaced it, nothing spectacular, but i wanted to be sure, so i decided to go in the video games to rent area to see if there wasn't another mgs3 box like that. And there was another one, exactly like that. So, i opened the box praying to see the manual (normally game manuals are stolen...) and surprizingly, it was here....and it was the same image as the front. anyone knows if blockbuster have some kind of exclusive mgs3 boxart or something? because i never saw this one, anywhere else ..
Someone might have stolen the cover and the manual, so they asked konami to send them another copy of the manual+cover. They possibly got the PAL version. Did you check the back of the cover to see if it said PAL or NTSC?
it's clearly a ntsc boxart, and it's written in english. the back is the same as the ''normal '' one though, without a change. the online sign on the front is the same as the american one too, that's very strange. i searched over the web, but i haven't found it yet... and i thought about the stoling thing too, it not uncommon to see a game without is manual in those kind of place because it was stolen... but stealing the little paper cover isn't something you see, and the two games have the same cover...if it was only one cover, it might be a plausible argument, but it is not the case, it's every manuals and every covers.
don't have any digital camera, and that blockbuster isn't in my town... i'll ask my friend i he could pass me his cell phone though, i would also need it to take pictures of an arc the lad item for Mr.Casual. i just hope he could pass a day without it... edit: i also thought to ask an employee where the hell did they manage to get this, but i don't think they would know, i can still try though, it's not like it costs something. i don't own mgs3, and this one interest me (if it's not something took on internet, but i doubt it, it looked to be a decent quality, the same quality as the other games.) but sadly, they sell it for too much, i hope they will revise their prices soon. edit no2: speaking of strange boxart, i found this on ebay while searching for the strange boxart i saw at blockbuster. here's another strange (and pretty cool too) one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11321&item=8182645221&rd=1 didn't know it existed. Anyway, i haven't found the boxart yet....that's pretty strange.
Evangelion-01 could you maybe stop posting senseless posts all the time. They've all gone now mate :happyhap:
The one on Ebay is similar to the PAL one I saw in Sweden. Anyways, is the game still available? Even if the boxart is printed, it can be somewhat valueable in the near future.
don't know, i haven't seen it since, but i probably will in the next week-ends, there's always one to rent though, so if the one for sale is taken away, there's still another one....it will probably take more time though.
EDIT: I finally was able to return to this blockbuster, only to see that there's no more two strange boxes of mgs3, but three! and two of these are on sale, but the price is unapealing.... 49.99 CAN, add 10 bucks and you could have a new copy of the game.... :ayashi just hope the price will drop soon.. anyway, i watched the box more closely, and i can tell you the Cover doesn't fit very well on the box (the boxart is , aproximativly, 1 centimeter smaller), the back is exactly as the normal ntsc-us back, confirmed. the manual inside the box have the same design, and there's an add of mgs comics on the back (don't know if it's the same on a ''normal'' manual, since i never saw one), there's no title on the left side too. the Art is very cool, more like the european mgs3 box, but only in style. snake stands on the left of the box and the title is on his right in the lower-right corner, there's the konami logo with ''Created by Hido Kojima'' a bit higher. the box is in shades of yellow , black and white, but yellow is dominant. I would love if someone could scan his US MGS3 manual for me, since i wonder if it's not the manual art on the cover. What makes me think of this? well, the size of the Cover, more than anything. i just hope i'm wrong... cahaz
Sounds weird. Did it look like the cover was properly printed? It be pretty easy to tell the difference between a proper print and some dodgy scanned inkjet print. Also, has anyone noticed an alternate label on some Tetris cartridges? Most the ones I've seen are like this: Except with different text and codes down the sides (ones over here and the UK say "DMG-TR-UKV" on the left). It's the same design as the NES game label too. However, my friend has one that looks different. It looks really old for starters, and the picture on it looks like this: But with English text, and the Tetris logo actually resembling that of in the game. And the code on it doesn't have a country code, it's just like "DMG-TR" or something. I'll scan it when I'm at home. Is it just what all early copies looked like or what? I can't find any pictures of it online.
