I have a Core Grafx with a problem I've never experienced before. It turns on and boots games just fine, but whenever I plug in a controller it acts as if one of the buttons is being pressed down. The button being pressed down seems to vary though, so far it's happed to buttons I, II, run, select, and one of the d-pad directions (I think? I can't quite remember, I was testing it a few days ago). I've tried only partially inserting the controller plug and I've tried wiggling it around, but no dice. It happens with all 3 controllers in my possession so I'm sure it's a problem with the console itself. Any ideas?
Sounds like the controller port may be damaged, its just an 8 pin mini din socket and is fairly easy to replace. The different button presses could be due to the multiplexing used by the controller.
probably one of the pins on the controller port isn't making contact. Might have been pushed in by the controller plug or possibly a bad solder joint on the connector.
I had an issue with a PC Engine (White) recently, one of the traces on the motherboard was broken and therefore I had no down button and select. Soldered a little bridge from the controller port to the affected part works like a charm now.
Alright, thanks for all the advice guys. I'll open it up and see what I can do. If I can't fix it then you have first dibs.
