I was given (along with a bunch of other interesting things) a weird PSX controller adapter...it has a ethernet port on it. I tried to do some research and came up empty...I have no idea if its common or rare...I uploaded some pictures in hopes someone would know...thanks

It has no tags of any form and looks professionally built, not home made...

If it's a dev tool, what can I do with it? Thanks for your help!

Could just be an easy way of interfacing controllers with a standard type of cable/connector easily and cheaply acquired. But I honestly don't know.

Thought the samething but not on a PSX...never seen it before either. Google turns up nothing. There appears to be no sign of a existing sticker. I don't want to open it in the fear i'll destroy it.

could it be for some sort of console to console link-up perhaps? I seem to remember a couple of megadrive games that could interface to another megadrive through controller port 2. Probably not though.
Perhaps for controlling the PS with software from a PC?

I don't think you could do any harm by looking inside.

10 pin RJ45 is for T1 and high speed IDSN connections right?

    Maybe?

I agree, I don't think much harm could be done by opening it... right now all we can do is take stabs in the dark until we know whats actually inside.

The problem with opening it is, well opening in it. It is really tightly sealed. I would practically destroy it and never be able to put it back together. I think i'll keep it the way it is in hopes someone figures it out...because this is the only rarish item i have, next to my VIC-20, ADAM computer and a few other things...

But thanks for the input thus far! That diagram...whats it of?

RJ-45 connector with pinouts for serial.

Hypothetically there is enough room inside that thing for a chip or two so it could be serial if the Playstation controller protocols could be adapted for such a thing. But given there is a link cable on the back that I'm pretty sure acts as serial as well as a whole parallel port I don't think anyone would have bothered.

Ethernet is 8 pins, but as pointed there are 10 pin RJ-45 connectors and cables out there. I'd grab a ohmmeter and try to discern what pins go where on each side.

Maybe it's for a wheel and pedals third party controller?

I remember having an old wheel for the PC that used RJ-45 connectors like those.

seems to well built to be a thing for a steering wheel, no branding on it either.

Domoco adapter! Assembler mentioned that to me earlier. I wish I could find a damn picture of this thing haha.

The weird thing about this adapter is the fact nothing exists about it...i really am curious as to what it does...

Yeah, ethernet only uses 8 pins but there is space for 10 in the connector. There is a blank position on either side.

It could be for connecting the hotel controllers, which use that style of connector.

I was thinking hotel controller, but for a PSX? That doesn't sound right, how would you turn the PSX on? Theres no way they'd just leave it on, that'd be a waste...Although I did see someone post about a controller with a ethernet end on it. Just would think it'd would actually connect to the PSX.

I don't think you have one console per room.

Could this be anything to do with the Lightspan educational software? There doesn't seem to be a picture of the modem anywhere online, although there are pictures of the PS/2 mouse & keyboard adapter.
