Anyone ever see a SFC game with a label like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-Mario-Wor...7893?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item27b5a535f5
Here's the cart in question: Looks like PAL cart, but then there's that Super Famicom bit. My money is on it being a custom label
Maybe it's some Asia version? What was the SNES called in the likes of Taiwan? Super Famicom or Super Nintendo? yakumo
I know nothing about Taiwan, but Hong Kong got a PAL branded "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" (though it had a lockout switch on it, so you could play SFC games in it). Wouldn't Taiwan also get PAL? Would the SNES even have got a release in Taiwan?
Actually, I have seen a pic of a Taiwanese SFC, and it looked exactly like the official JP one, just with Super Nintendo written in Chinese. If this were a Taiwan version I'd think like the console it would also have something translated to Chinese on it though.
It could be a fake. The Super Famicom text logo is written in the old prototype system's font and colour by the looks of it. I'm sure the prototype SFC had it's text logo written in red while the final version was in black.
A quick look at the back should sort things out. Set the cam to macro ( the flower in the flower/mountain setting) and take some snaps.
Its a Hong Kong version, here are some pics I found a few years ago of the same game. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/pikkonson/2nta3cm.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/pikkonson/4t5xr7.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/pikkonson/jtv2g9.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/pikkonson/2ntxog7.jpg
Indeed, these releases must be rare as hell. Edit: here are a couple of pictures of the Hong Kong snes:
Actually the SNES *AND* Super Famicom were released in HK. Both output PAL (at least the SNES has a 50/60Hz switch) but require NTSC carts.
The game did sell for a nice price, wish I knew of the auction.I have a super comboy game so it would be nice to have this as well.
So far, Yoshi's Island is the only HKG release for the SNES/SFC I have seen... But I doubt Mani would release the console there with only one game (btw there are at least two different Hong Kong Super Nintendo, with different boxes).
Ha! That's pretty damn funny. But yea, definitely surprising that the disjunction with the SN/Fam labeling got past anyone checking it. But then again...
