http://kotaku.com/5181300/onlive-makes-pc-upgrades-extinct-lets-you-play-crysis-on-your-tv The fuck! Wierd!!!
so crazy it might just work!! does that mean i can play Crysis on my 3 year old macbook?? without even having Windows?? insane.
I have to say, this is a great idea if it works as advertised. I have a good internet connection with an outdated video card, so this definitely interests me! I wonder how much the "micro-console" will cost in the end. I enjoy the prospect of playing computer games on my TV without running cables out of my room, down a flight of stairs, and into my living room.
LAG. It will happen, they won't be able to stop it. If 2 PSP's require a delay system for Tekken DR over wifi when they are sitting next to each other then this will never take off.
Of course it's coming for real. This will develope in the next 5 years, but it is yet limited by bandwith. IF the bandwidth is there it works.
Very Interesting! Will have to see how it comes along... I am definitely through with updating my Graphics Card... It has costed me too much, and gets outdated in weeks... :crying:
My old 7900GS lasted me for a long ass time. Looks like the 8800GT is going to be good for a long time too. I think now with the Core 2 Duos and stuff PC's are getting outdated a lot slower. Cards are cheaper now too. It's the games that are kind of lacking.
So there will be a central server (mainframe) that will provide the processing and data to the micro-console (terminal). ... brilliant and new (we moved away from this system 25 years ago because people prefer to have their own functional machines)
Are you serious? I don't really like false assumption that GPUs are outdated as soon as a new one comes out just because graphics companies push to release new products every six months. I used to think the same thing though, so I understand where this misinformation is coming from. However, that being said unless you are playing at super high, wide screen resolutions you probably won't need to upgrade your GPU for years at a time. Most people aren't using very high resolution monitors, as 1280 x 1024 (or 1440 x 900 if you are using a wide screen) is suitable. At a resolution as tiny as 1280 x 1024 or 1440 x 900, a GPU in the $120 to $140 range should be enough to play any game out today at more than acceptable levels. The 8800GT/9800GT was released in 2007 and is still a very capable GPU today. I was running two of them in my PC for quite some time actually. If you want to play at premium resolutions, you are going to have to pay a premium price, simple as that. Super high resolution PC games are worlds beyond anything you will see on a console and to some that is worth the price. However, you can easily achieve XBOX 360 or PS3 level graphics (and better) without paying that premium. No computer can, and not because the game is just that amazing either, but because it was a terrible port. It simply was not optimized for PCs, and usually ends up being CPU limited on most computers... even when the computer has an OC'd Core 2 Extreme. Here a pretty good read that shows even when run on the most powerful of computers, GTA IV runs like crap: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTYyMyw4LCwxMTA=
Hell, when I upgraded to my e8400 my 7900GS was playing UT3, Gears of War and Quake Wars at max everything with an average of 2xAA at 1440x900. 1440x900 is a fine res too, seeing as most people are moving from 1280x1024 CRT's and stuff. Really, 8800GT (and now I guess the 9800GT is the entry card?) isn't that pricey but getting the rest of the PC up to spec can be pricey, but once your there, your fine for a longggg time. Stuff doesn't get outdated as much anymore, but really most people are fine with a 360/ps3 now. The difference between PC and console, for most games, isn't as huge as it was back in the day. Still, a nice PC should make anyone smile.
It's certainly an interesting idea. Are they saying you're effectively using a VNC? So what, they have hundreds of computers running hundreds of copies of the game? That's got to be prohibitively expensive! Yeah, methinks I'll stick to console gaming, too!!
Wel, it's not like you have to choose one or the other really, lol. Not many people seem to stick with just one system really.
It's a crazy idea, and in theory it sounds great. But I seriously doubt it will work without lag at really good video definitions as advertised. I think it's a bit ahead of it's time. But luckily we'll see soon enough.
