Yes, those videos are 2 years old or so but still, thanks for sharing :smt023

The real truth behind those videos is that they are test CG demos by Ancient (people behind such games as Story of Thor on the Mega Drive) for a new upcoming Dreamcast Bare Knuckle (SOR) game. Sadly they never got past these CGs because some arse in power decided that this type of game is old news and wouldn't sell. Bollocks to that :smt097

The Saturn also had a Streets Of Rage game planned for it but it wouldn't be programmed by Sega but by the British Software house Core Design. In the 90's, Core worked closely with Sega on many projects including the famous Scud Racer tech' demo on the Dreamcast. Anyway, back to Streets Of Rage. You may know of a shite game on the PlayStation called Fighting Force. Well this was originally a Saturn game by Core that was going to be Streets Of Rage 4 and released by Sega. The Saturn version pooped on the Playstation version from a great height in the visual department thanks to the use of "mode 7" for the floors and ceilings (Just like independence day on the Saturn looks better) But the game played like shite so Sega dropped the project. Core decided to carry it on and bring the game out on the PlayStation under the name of Fighting Force. There is a rolling Demo of the Saturn version out there which was given away free on a SEGA FLASH CD with the British Official Sega Saturn Magazine. I have this disc in my UK home. From what I remember, the game looked stunning with transparencies and hi-rez graphics. The 2nd Fighting Force was released on the Dreamcast but that's a load of shite too just like the original. Looks like Sega made a good move dropping the Saturn version. Would have done the series more harm than good.

  4. There's a Fighting Force on N64 if I'm not mistaken, so that means there's sortof a Sega game on the 64, right? :smt043

By the by, been thinking of snagging a copy of this as it appears pretty cheap - is it much different than the PSX version?

    thanks for the info!

i always think that fighing force was related to sor serie , i dont know why , but now, i know that its true!

and yes there's a game called fighting force 64. the same game as for the psx.

if ( and i said IF ) sega announce a new console at E3 i esper they will think for a new ,real good , made by sega, street of rage!

    (why not a 2d or 2d-3d sequel? )

It was still called Fighting Force I belive. At the time there was only a Saturn version. Once Sega told Core that they weren't interested in it, Core started to port the engine over to the PlayStation.

At one time, Core was going to release Tomb Raider 2, Ninja: Shadow of Darkness, and Fighting Force for the Saturn. Most of those projects were pretty far along (I even heard that Tomb Raider 2 was 90% completed).

Sony came along with a big sack of money, and all those games came out for the PSOne only. I think for Fighting Force and Ninja, Sony only had the exclusive rights in the United States, so Core was going to release them for the Japanese Saturn. I was actually going to import them, but they were delayed numerous times, and were never released. If anyone has the Famitsu magazines for 1997, you can see they were listed in the Saturn's coming soon release list.
