Any recommendations for software that'll stress a retail system? GoW2 is one of the best examples, but it doesn't really have a non-interactive portion that uses the engine so that's pointless. I'm basically looking for software (preferrably a free demo) that I can toss onto repaired systems and let em run for a few hours to verify that they're stable. This would be non-hacked, non-dev stuff. Just plain old retail software. Thanks, -hl718
Hmm I would recommend a game with a large draw distance and a lot of particles. If it wasn't a retail I would give you a few things. My recomendations is GOW1 and Mass Effect 1 both have been deemed to be xbox killers with weak video connection. Lets see what else... Ah, I can create you a mod for halo 3 that causes FPS drop and tons of stress and it will work on a retail unit. Just let me know. Otherwise leaving it on 3 days was how old sellers used to stress test devkits before selling them.
Does GoW 1 have a self-running, in-engine demo loop? If so, that would be great. GoW 2's title screen doesn't stress much. The basic idea is I just don't want to sit there and have to spend hours playing a stack of boxes before I pass them along. And since I don't really want to do tech support for family/friends I want to be reasonably sure that what I'm passing on is solid and isn't going to result in "come fix it!" calls. I am, sadly, not nearly as up on retail software as I'd like to be. -hl718
there was an actual stress disk leaked a while ago, it was left in a machine that came back from repair. It loops a PGR3 lap while getting faster and faster. It was released as Microsoft_Xbox_360_Ping_17_Test_Disc_READNFO_XBOX360-iND
I read about that but he needs to flash his drive and that will get the console banned not to mention I remember hearing it connects to microsoft servers could be wrong on that though but I'm pretty sure thats what was said that kept me from dling it. Perhaps farcry 2 would be another option?
I have that on my dev but didn't think of suggesting it because I didn't know rather or not the replay was a debug feature. Glad you got everything worked out and good work P1N.
Good game for repair stress testing? (Thanks mods for moving my topic, I'm dumb and didn't search. HAH) Forza sounds like an excellent choice. Now I'll just have to find a cheap copy to have on-hand.
