What are the strongest consoles ?
Of course consoles with non moving parts are stronger then consoles with moving parts.

But what is the strongest console and how should we test this.
I heard stories about a nes consoles dumped in a lake and after it got picked up it still played.

I also read a story about a gamecube thrown out a car that still played after it.

but what is true and what is fiction ?

The N64 is one tough built console and can take quite a beating. And there was that Gameboy that survived a bomb. Nintendo built their consoles to last.

EDIT - I guess they did have lifetime warranties (at least in AUS they did). I wonder if they will still honor that?

As for the cd playing consoles, the Gamecube is pretty hard to defeat too. It is quite strong, at least structurally.
Gotta give Nintendo some credit for the sturdiness of their designs.

Even the NES, is you get past the finickiness of the connector, is tank.

If you don't count the laser, the fat PS2 can take a huge beating. You can throw it around anywhere and it will almost always still power up. Unfortunetly the laser is the weakest part.

I recon this video is not very serious but still funny and kind of interesting.

My cousins friend said him and his girlfriend got into a fight and she threw a Gamecube out the window from like the 4th story window and it still works just the handle was broken.

Wii Mini could be a potential candidate. Most of the ports are protected from impact by it's tupperware casing, although the disc-tray door looks a little flimsy. I can't find a video of someone destroying one.

I think the strongest console is possibly the TG16. Even if the plastic is a little cheap, I've never really seen one break down at all.

    Yeah N64 is a tank.

My vote for cartridge consoles is N64 and Gamecube for Disc consoles.

The good old genesis is a pretty reliable machine too. They may not have the brick feel of the n64 but I see very little failing electronically.

Yeah, I can't see the casing getting burnt that much, but the display not being burnt at all.

I have a genesis that has been in a house fire. It works great and no rebuilding was necessary. However the cart port was hacked open as it was molten shut.

It came bundled with a game.

This genesis belonged to my favourite uncle ( he was actually burned alive in that fire ).
We used to game together when I was a kid and I was very sad when he died in that fire, I think I was like 12.
Nonetheless I still have his genesis. The rough hacking job was made by myself when I was 12, was not as skilled with tools back then.

I remember the original Nintendo Power article. When they tested it after someone sent it to them, it still powered on and beeped. They probably replaced LCD so they can show the main board still works.
