So, i just bought a new HL2 collector edition pack. I poped the dvd in, and tried to installed it. Everything worked fine, until i get for the installation of directx 9.0b. They say i already have a version of directx 9.0b or greater installed on my machine. Fine. I click next, and... nothing. it doesnt want to go any further, and the application isnt frozed or anything, i can go back without any difficulty. Anyone experienced this? I already tried three times, and nothing seem to work. thank you.
Is there a separate process for the DirectX installer that is started but not closed? I have had some programs that try to install prerequisites stall because the spawned process doesn't close. Once it is manually closed, installation completed as usual.
The directx installation proccess is done in the main and only installation windows, if thats what you mean. It sucks, i wanna play hl2 :-(
odd, i have the same one and never had problems installing, you might want to contact valve on the issue.
Actually, what I mean is that even though there are no windows open for the DirectX installation part, the process for it is still running in the background. Adobe Acrobat, for example, is notorious for remaining "alive" even though the program has been closed. You will have to look in the Task Manager to see if any extra processes show up during the installation. Look for things like "setup.exe" or "dx***.exe" and try ending them to see if that lets the installation proceed.
copy the dvd to the hdd, then reboot in safe mode. Install the game, reboot in normal mode. It sounds like you have some sort of registry or system error. Kevin
try to get a copy of norton system works, like a dl demo or similar. It has a registry scanner and error fixer.
Could be Starforce or some other stupid shit copy protection you have installed. Not sure what the retail disc of HL2 has but it could have issues as well. It IS afterall an EA product.
It worked, thanks . It was my first copy of half-life two, but i guess its because i installed the demo before or something. Demos also put keys in the registery, right? Anyway, thank you guys, i can finally play this game that i missed because my last pc couldnt handle it. :110:
