Hey folks, I know many of you are big fans of this game. It's one of those games from back in the day I never completed, so recently I fired it up. But I've gotten stuck at a certain point, day 2 of the forklift job, as detailed here: http://guidesarchive.ign.com/guides/14499/walk3a.html For some reason the cutscene where the 9 thugs attack you in Wherehouse #3 isn't unlocking. I work the shift, drive in and out of the wherehouse at 3pm trying to trigger it but it doesn't happen, then the shift ends and that's it. Is this some kind of bug or something? I would really hate to have to start over.
I just beat the game for the first time about a month ago and other than it locking up once I never had any problems although I have heard of other people having some. For alot of people the 3rd disc wont work. As far as your problem goes try doing other things like talking to people and such. You could look at another guide and see if maybe there was a error with the one you were reading. I know you have to talk to the old man several times while working at the docs. Good luck on figuring it out.
Your situation is a glitch that happens in the us version in which the event occurs. I was fortunate enough to encounter it only 2nd time playing through but got through it somehow. I reccomend checking out the guides on gamefaqs or ask on the shenmuedojo forum as i belive they explain how to get out of the glitch.
I am playing SHenmue 2 right now, for the 2nd time. Wish they would hurry up and finish this shit up. It's such a well put together game.
It's different. I think they're both brilliant, but Shenmue 2 definitely fixed some problems w/ the first one. 2 is: 1: Much bigger -- Way more areas to explore, more shops, more people. For me though, you lose the feeling of really being a part of the town that you had the in the first one. Not a bad thing, just different. 2: Days go slower (this is a great fix) 3: More ways to earn money. You no longer have to work, although you can. There are many ways to make money, including fighting. 4: More fights, and more involved QTE's. 5: Much fewer dead spots... almost none. One thing I don't like about the 2nd one, is that EVERYONE speaks Japanese, which doesn't make sense. Shenmue is supposed to be real. In the first one, all the Chinese people living in Yokosuka spoke with heavy accents. He goes to HK, and everyone speaks Japanese. . If you can get over that hump, it's a great game. I would've rather the story focused on some offbeat Japanese, but that's me.
I read that sega was auditioning at one time for chinise voices, however with the cost of the project and the fact it would have added alot more difficulty to dev as he would then need some sorta of translator. After beating it i can say it is a much longer and alot more satisfying game. However i do feel the orignal is better in some ways, such as in the orignal you interacted wtih alot more stuff. Plus in this one various desings and such in certain places sometimes repeat themselves. But this is very minor squabiles, i highly reccomend getting it if you like the first one.
the english voiceovers in the xbox shenmue 2 are god-awful, completely ruined the game for me. couldn't be arsed to finish it. btw re: forklift job, in case anyone else gets stuck.. you have to follow a very particular route with the forklift or you won't trigger the final fight scene.. spent like 7 days driving that thing.
