I bought last week a power supply for my cga-vga converter that uses 5V 2A But the power supply i got its 5V 3A, this wont damage the converter in anyway, would it? im think it wont, but i dont remember to well as i dont mess with this stuff for quite some time Just want to be sure before plugin that thing.
If the power supply is regulated (i.e. it always outputs 5v, regardless of load) then you will be fine. Unregulated power supplys only supply the rated voltage when the correct load is being used.
its probably light, havent got it yet, should arrive later today or tomorrow http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-202767908-fonte-de-alimentaco-chaveada-5v-3a-chaveada-_JM i do have a multimeter
Check voltage with your multimeter. If it provides 5v when there is nothing but the multimeter connected, it is a regulated PSU and will be fine. edit: from that pic, i am pretty certain its regulated and will be fine.
It's fine. While the new unit is capable of supplying 3amps, the converter you have will only draw as much as it needs anyway
Not true for unregulated power supplies. Voltage will be higher than 5v if the draw is not the same as rated on the PSU. That is an overly generic statement and could cause problems for people.
Not news to anyone with a good engineering background. http://www.youtube.com/user/Afrotechmods#p/search/3/cyhzpFqXwdA Good primer, but this is all about unregulated power supplies. thats why i was not sure XD i remember theres a voltage draw but wasnt quite sure how this works anymore, as i studied it about 6 years ago. EDIT: Started watching those vids, remembering a lot of stuff much faster than i would reading ^^ Thanks APE
