OH: Today I left home at 7:10 like everyday for going to train taekwondo. I arrived to the train station at 7:15, like always, and said, well I hope the train arrives soon! ... IT ARRIVED AT 7:45!! 25 MINUTES LATE!!! :banghead: It seems like the train was new (even some bars and seats where still bubble wrapped), and it had to do a test run, so it went at fucking 5 mph!! Even pedestrians we're faster than us! I arrived at 8:20 to the training... 20 minutes late. Gah. Now I realise why those fags don't deserve the money the ticket costs (I never pay, so who cares :dance.
My local train taking me into town is listed as 8 minutes past the hour. However, in every instance that I have ever been in the station ahead of this time there is an announcement over the speakers, which is 'We are sorry to announce the 8 minutes past train is....5 minutes late'. It is every day. We have even got to the stage that we can rattle off the announcement as it is being spoken. My query to the rail company would be, why not just make the train 13 minutes past in the first place, then you'd officially be on-time every day!
Things like this make me thankful for the fact that the tube, incredibly busy as it is, is lovely and regular. Never wait more than 5 mins unless you wanna go somewhere daft!
you never pay the train but rant around when they're late? what's wrong with you dude? so better go by shanks's pony from now on
You would think that if they had to do a test run at that speed then they would do it late at night/early morning when passengers would be at a minimum. I guess that would require common sense though.
Translink have just raised the price of transit to $1.75 for concession and $2.50 for adults. The month before that, the 701 bus I usually take did not appear at all. I missed meeting Amon Amarth at a signing. To travel 3 zones (AKA from the 'burbs to downtown Vancouver) it costs an adult $5. That means to get to work and back everyday costs $10 if you don't use buy a pass or go after 7pm or on a weekend, when zones no longer apply. Transit sucks everywhere.
It's govt's train service, we alredy pay money for them, how would I pay the fucking 3$ they ask for a supposedly "20 minute" trip?? The first months I started using this line I payed everyday. I payed 6$ per day for an irregular, unconfortable, slow and unmantained service. Once I bought a 10 trip cupon, used it once and... The machine ate it. I got no answer from tech service. I got tired of paying 180$ per month for that piece of shit. They just don't deserve it.
Trains here are often late as well. 5-10 minutes is nothing unusual, 20min maybe twice a year. I believe its almost the same anywhere on the world. If you really want to go by reliable trains, immigrate to Japan. Their railroads are 100% on time EVERYTIME EVERYWHERE!
Trains/busses arriving late are just like a fact of life, imho - if you get a car you might as well get stuck in a traffic jam or anything, but in that case there's nobody to bitch about. Of course it sucks when it makes you late for something. One night, I missed the last connecting train home and was stuck in Amsterdam at 1AM, fortunately I had a friend I could stay with. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with public transport here in Holland. Some Dutchies would probably disagree though! I hardly use buses but I'm a heavy user of intercity trains, which on my trajectory rarely run late nowadays, and the "subway" (more like a lightrail that harldy ever goes underground) and trams in Amsterdam aren't bad, at least they run very regularly. Heck, I don't think I'll get or need a car any time soon, unless my future place of work is in some shithole. I travel to Belgium a lot and imho transit is even better there. Moreover, the knowledge that I am at least doing my part in keeping pollution down is a plus
I agree to Paulo & the others! But I pay 36,50EUR a month for my ticket and every second day its too late for no reason. For those who pay for their ride, it's not a satisfying investment at all.
Thats a bargain though, for me to make a 2 mile trip twice a day costs me £36/month here, and thats using a student discount!
Wow thats tough! I need that ticket for my daily 70km trip (bidirectional). It once cost 33EUR, but they raised their prices (I use a student discount as well, 56 is the regular price). But at least you can walk if your train won't arrive, "it's just 2 miles"...
I'm much lazier than that! if the train doesn't come, I get the bus! This is london underground though, who will charge people who don't know about their smartcard tickets £4 for a single paper ticket for just one (or more) stops
Here trains aren't used a lot for passengers, so what we have is a stupid amount of busses. Anyway, you can find 3 busses of the same line in 5 minutes or like a month ago, I waited for an hour and a half! In particular, the line I use to go to college is extremely irregular, so I have to leave home more than an hour before to get there in time...
public transport aka (first bus) where i live is totally crap, they made the buses more frequent from every 30 mins to every 15 mins which sounded good as most of the time buses were inconsistent at arriving on time but instead they've made half the new buses miss 65-70% of stops without actually teling you which bus stops they do and don't stop at. And now they have upped the prices so i have to pay £2.10 just to get into edinburgh for college and to get up town its £2.40 which i have to pay again to get home.
Thats $2160 a year, you could buy a decent used car for that even on spain (yep, I was there buddy:nod That or a scooter, since I know car taxes in europe can be a pain in the ass...
