Right, I do apologise if this is considered to be in the wrong place, I really wasn't sure where to put this. I recently discovered the Sufami Turbo addon for the Japanese Super Famicom and a library of games that are of interest to me personally. It was an officially licensed peripheral add-on made so that Bandai could make their own games for cheaper, and also added a functionality where for some compatible titles, you could COMBINE two of their cartridges to enhance the game you are playing using data from the second one. Now, here's where I need some help. I'm in a PAL territory. I only have a PAL SNES, although I have one of the special double-slot region unlocker carts (you know the sort. You plug a game of the console's native region into the rear and the foreign game into the front and it tricks the console.) What I want to know is if a Sufami Turbo would be tricked by using this, or if it's hardware is so alien that I need an NTSC region console to run it. I know it'll work on a North American SNES that's been modified to fit the Japanese cart shape, but I'm not sure if I essentially need to trade in my console for a modded one or not. Also, not sure if it'll function properly under the 50/60 differential (typically, Japanese games will run on a PAL system with the region bypass, just slower, but some won't work at all.) If anyone can give me information on getting one of these to run, before I end up buying one, I'll be in your debt.
It should work with your usual region bypass techniques I think. I can't say for certain. If the games function on any emulator you could see if setting the emulator to PAL mode breaks the games or not. It would also help you find out if there is a software region check, the kind that prints a message on screen saying the game is not designed for your console region. So if possible you should look into emulating them and seeing what happens when they are emulated in PAL mode. If they work then your typical double slot region bypass device should work as long as it physically fits together.
cheers, i'll look into it. I'm just... curious about this peripheral. It literally had 13 games on it, and 6 are from a franchise i like, so it seems like something worth getting into if i can get hold of one.
