Have anyone shipped something from Japan to central/eastern Europe using surface mail? I know estimated time of arrival is between 2-3 months, but I want to know, how does it compare to reality .
Hmm, sometimes surface mail can take only a few weeks but other times it can take forever. The longest I had someone waiting was almost 4 months! Basically, it all depends if there are any full cargo ships heading in the direction of the target country. If not the parcel will wait in Japan until there is.
I had four huge packages shipped to me via surface mail and it took almost exactly two months every time. The package wasn't more beat up than via Airmail although there are people who are convinced that seamail stuff is usually treated a lot worse. Anyway, depending on how your country handles the shit that's going on in Japan right now, I would consider the risks before choosing seamail. In Germany, for instance (panic country #1!), they are already discussing how to check Japanese ships and containers for radio-active contamination.
I live in Poland, one of shit holes of Europe so things may be going little slow due to our "great" customs offices, but as far as I see, shipments from Japan work as usual (I received my SAL package yesterday, it took about 18 days to arrive). I'm not afraid something will break, because it would be a batch of SFC carts (almost indestructible ) and some PSX games. I'm just being paranoid since I will probably have to move out of my apartment in about three months and I wanted to know usual timeframe. Thanks guys, I feel better now .
