Well two suggestions, the first is that people should probably make it very clear what country they are in as there do seem to be a number of threads where the user hasn't shown what country they are from either in their profile information or in the sales text and as we do have a very international bunch of people we can't assume everyone lives in the states. putting this information in the signatures is also worthless as by default signatures are turned off and I for one like the clean look. My second suggestion is that people type in the currency they want in words as some computers don't seem to display the currency text properly, so rather then saying (euro symbol)200 it displays (sqaure)200 on my works computer. Saying 200 Euros, 200 UK pounds, 200 US Dollars, 20000 Yen, 200 Australian Dollars or even 500 Turkish Lira or 2,000,000 Zimbawaen Dollars would be much clearer and will work on all computers...
I would add maybe a template for people to copy and fill out might be a useful way of having people not forget to add the type of currency and other stuff. Just my 0.02 USD Jeff.
I hate mentioning basic stuff like this because people who aren't sharp enough to realize they need to mention these things probably won't read the rules, yes?
in the last few days iv noticed how much of a pain it can be or the marketplace not knowing where people are i think everyone should have there location in there profile
I agree. It is common sense to either have it in your nick at the side or make a note of it when selling/buying but it wouldn't hurt to have it in the rules.
Other sites I go to, require that you do not take the price of the item sold out of the for sale thread. You have to leave it on there and list it as sold and post the selling price you sold it, too.
That's why I made this a loong time ago: I used to use it in noob posts, but since you now have a minimum post rule..... I agree that it's nice to see the price, for reference. The marketplace is only viewable to registered users, right? That would explain why there are 3000 users who are just lurking without making a single post. That is using up bandwidth and database space on people who have no intention posting. I would vote for some user pruning!
I don't think leaving the price is an option in some threads. Maybe if the thread was selling one specific item, then yes, I agree it would be nice. What happens when I am selling 100 different items!?!? Say 50 items are sold, am I supposed to leave them up with prices and pictures? This would be a pain in the ass as it would mean potential buyers scrolling through a huge list of SOLD items in order to find what is still for sale. Or would it be better to clutter the forum with 100 single threads and leave the prices on?
Personally, I prefer to see what has already been sold. Remebering that this is primarily a forum for development, more often than not things on the sale thread are dev related, e.g. betas and dev gear. If you miss out on something, it is nice to still know it is out there.
But I think topics are deleted too. For example, I tried to find a sales topic by Yakumo for help/reference for prices but I can't find it, and I think it might have been deleted. But also I think Jamtex's sale topic was deleted and I don't understand why, especially after a certain point was made by Paulo in it, that referred to the topic maybe helping other member in the future, but which can't now because it is deleted.
PM me the details of the two threads i can take a look. Normally we dont delete sales threads unless users ask for them to be deleted.
I also think people should leave the original listed price for the item and how much it sold for as a future guide.
Oh, if only it were so simple. I must admit that sometimes with this sort of material it comes down to part cash / part trade. I will be in the middle of trying to sell something off, wanting to get rid of material and someone will come back and say 'Can I give you £ X.XX plus the rest in <hardware / software>'. It's not Argos folks! So, in future I don't know whether to just leave the 'asking' price, or post the 'final' price or even mention trades against said item. Oh boy?!
