I'm looking into buying a flash cart or copier to play unreleased N64 games and betas. What would be my best option for the most compatibility and feature? And a quick followup - I know Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine will not work on emulators (as far as I've been able to tell at least), but does it run off of a flash cart?

A Z64 wouldn't be a bad choice. It's probably your best bet for now.

The neoflash cart only supports two games at a time, and write times are pretty slow. I will have something out in the future but I don't have a solid ETA for it.

Indiana Jones, World Drive Championship, Rogue Squadron/Battle For Naboo, and Stunt Racer are some of the games using completely original graphics microcode for rendering. They work great on the N64. They don't run on emulators because N64 emulators suck ;)

I don't need to have a dozen games on it at once, and write speeds aren't a real problem. I was looking into the NeoFlash cart, but I think I'll just wait a bit and see what you come up with.

You could be a weirdo and try to get an NU64 Flash Gang Writer =P Teehee. Personally, I agree with that Z64 suggestion. I've always wanted to ask though, how is the V64 and what is the difference?

Another recommendation for the Z64 from me. While I haven't tried any of the alternatives, I've had very few problems with mine so far. Just make sure you also get a decent selection of boot carts.
Having (almost) the whole library available right on the device is pretty nice, too...

Ok, well I know the cost of a NeoFlash cart. How much would a Z64 run me? And where would I find Zip Disks and a drive for my computer?

Zip disks and drives go for dirt cheap on ebay.

You could replace the Zip drive with a laptop HDD, which is what I did, or even with a CF card so you don't have any moving parts at all in there. Besides having more space, both options are quieter and faster than a Zip drive.

Heh, I have mountains of Zip disks from back in the day. Most of them have roms and other crap that I had from my old computer, (which I miss every day, it was perfect for game development ;_;) I really wish I could find my drive though, I have lost it since then, and I really want to go through my old crap, I did quite a few pretty good romhacks of Sonic the Hedgehog back then when I was more interested in that sorta thing...
