Anyone ever seen this console system? http://www.vanillaicemedia.com/acan/acan.htm How common are they?
A few people here have them. Alien Workshop does....Can_dude...who still pops up on occasion does... They're certainly not common in the US. Some people have imported them for collecting purposes...and there was an electronics company that was selling them for awhile in the US out of their catalog. But you'll find all of that once you find the A'Can thread.
I have seen it before. I hear its pretty damn rare, and games are even rarer. Here are some links http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3183&highlight=A'can http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1865&highlight=A'can http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2209&highlight=A'can http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2510&highlight=A'can http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33&page=1&highlight=A'can I have seen AWS's Super A'can in person, but he doesnt know if it works or not since he has no games for it.
We seem to have this come up every now and then - a new poster wanders in wanting A-Can info, and they get redirected to the thread, whereever it is. Anyone else think we should sticky the Super A-Can thread?
i think it doesnt come up so often that it needs to be a sticky. Mind u some sticky topics dont get used at all right now...
A'Can for Great Justice! Perhaps ASSEMbler should dedicate a page on the main site to the A'Can, featuring the information collected from the forum... that way we could just link that page for our A'Can-minded visitors. =) ~Krelian
I think SOMETHING should be done - this is the only page that ever seems to be regularly exhumed (barring the times where a new member doesn't read the last post date :smt043 ), and I can imagine it would be a right pain to search for. Plus, I'm not sure if ASSEMbler has any info on the A-Can or not. A possible AWS/ASSEMbler co-production? rayer:
Now that is a very good idea. An A-Can page would be great if it's possible to fill it full of system specs as well as pictures. Yakumo
I agree - there should be an A'Can page on the main site. Although newcomers will probably totally ignore it! Still, we can redirect them! The system itself doesn't seem to be as rare as the games, and IMHO people overrate its rarity. Don't forget, it was sold off as electronic junk for $5 or something a few years ago!!!
Yup, because of it's "western discovery" a few years back, so many more have surfaced. The system IMO is worth about $50, more if it's complete/mint/new, games are worth between $15-30 apiece.. The best way to find games still is through Yahoo Taiwan auctions, the problem is that most people there want pretty high prices for the games, especially in sets and probably don't speak english, accept paypal or ship abroad.
emugo.com Always has interesting stuff on fleabay...just the postage from Hong Kong can be a killer :-(
Not just postage, his overpriced merch for the condition is a killer too. He makes a living ripping off foreigners (the A'Can set on his site he sold for $700...)
Anyone know if there's an A'can emulator, and if the games have been dumped? I know it's not the most well know console, but we know how people like to fiddle with consoles. It'd be interesting to actually play some of the games to see what the machine can do. Anyone with an A'can fancy reviewing the odd game and posting screen shots please? Edit - Found some screen shots and info but no reviews.
No emulator and no games have been dumped. Who knows if ever when a emulator and dumps will exist. Shouldn't be that hard to do since the console is very similar to a Mega Drive, the sound system and VDP will still need to be understood before an emulator can even be thought of though.
most of the games ever released on that system had pc ports anyway. i remember seing some Old disks (original copies) of those games at my friend house, he doesn't even know what the hell is an A'can, but he does have the games...well, the pc ports.
