I just got my Super Everdrive from Retrogate. Works fine and Im really happy with it. However: I bought it without DSP chip because I have a spare Mario Kart here which I will salvage for it. On the Super ED there is clearly lined out where and how the DSP is supposed to go. But there is another chip marked there (74HCU04) and beside it is another white rectangle with 3 pins. What is supposed to go there? Would be very nice if somebody could enlighten me. -D
74HCU04 and rectangular thing is a parts of clock generator. those two parts should be available inside of dsp cart. rectangular thing = white or blue plastic part inside of dsp cart
Thanks for the answer! ray: So to get DSP1 working it needs this 74HCU04 and white thing in place? I checked your PCB closer and connected to this white part are 4 small solderpads. I guess these are resistors or caps? Are they needed as well and if yes would you be so kind as to tell me what I need to solder there (which values)? Maybe this is useful for others too who thought they could just solder a DSP from an old cart in there. In the attached Image I marked the relevant parts: 1 = 74HCU04 (from donor cart) 2 = white thing with 3 legs (from donor cart) 3 = ? 4 = ?
3 and 4 needs only if you will use 8mhz quartz instead of white thing from original cart. alsoyou should solder 74hcu04 on front side of pcb and dsp on the bottom side
Thanks a lot for the info. I really appreciate it! Chips are soldered on the side you drew the white shapes on. I guessed as much. Textbook PCB with writings and marked Pin 1 on all devices so I guess it shouldnt be a problem
Final result: Tested with Pilotwings and Mariokart and working great  Thanks again Krikzz for your help!
Sweet, I wondering about the exact same thing. Now all I have to do is track down a copy of Ballz 3D. That game is balls, so I have no problem butchering it. Thanks Krikzz
