Hi, all. I found some more cool pics of early SFC games. This, for instance:

I put up more pics on my homepage, plus an early tech spec translation, and even a history of the SFC's development as reported in the (Japanese) press.

nice pictures!! I must disagree with you on the SMW title screen - I think the sepia look and design is fantastic.

incredible how old mags today can provide invaluable info on how games where whilst in production. great reads then - great reads now (the old mags that is - Edge is the only modern mag I enjoy these days).

The handful of games that I've played that they've reviewed have been pretty spot on (except for shooting games, but that's to be expected in this day and age). I've seen them hand out 5's and 6's left and right, and sure enough, the game sucks.

Does anybody have any more info on the SMW beta? A quick google search yielded nothing. Has a protoype cart ever surfaced? Are there known copies out there? Any info would be greatly appreciated (even a simple "no. nothing has ever leaked beyond magazine shots"). Thanks.

I agree with you to an extent. I think its the way the colors are used and sorta of the simple artistic style of it (such as the early title screen). I wish i had bought that magazine that had a picture of a early zelda oot title screen, which said zelda 64 but was done in this real nice stain glass look where parts of the screen were colored.

I don't know anything about a debugging club... Who, where, in what country, when?

This "Super Mario Club" looks like the name of a membership in Nintendo's modem network. From the screenshots, members can view information about each game: what maker, release date, selling price. That's all I know.

The adaptor for FDS is not an FDS in an NES cart, but just a differently-shaped 60-72 pin adaptor, since regular adaptors are too short for the FDS to fit inside the NES slot.

ccovell, don't you ever watch your game credits?;) at the end of each nintendo title or second party title usually, it says "debug" and special thanks to super mario club or, super mario club is included in the debugging process ;)

They are nintendo of japans testing team, they are the japanese equivelent of nintendos tree house. But these screenshots suggest they are for people that are part of the network.

Thanks for the link! I can't believe somebody has a beta and is willing to dump it. I hope the person that owns it is able to get it to work.

This really is some amazing stuff, just catching up on the board I have been away from for years and I come across this amazing thread, thanks alot for the pics C covell.

There is another Super Famicom prototype, I had pics of it in an old magazine that got lost when I moved, it had a button on it to make it backwards compatible with the Family Computer and was a more square shape with all the buttons on the console being on the right as well.

If anyone has pics of this version, can you please post them.EDIT: I now see the pics of this machine on your site CCovell, thanks so much, your site is incredible!!
