Super Famicom Final Fantasy V hack?

So in my collection I have a FF5 cartridge that had a peculiar switch on the top of it... obviously hacked in place. Upon opening it up I found two resistors (one on either side) and some wires going to a single pull double throw switch. Additionally, there seems to be a ROM soldered on the back of the PCB. The switch doesn't seem to do anything for game play as I've tired booting the game both ways. Any ideas?

 

That's pretty cool. More save files in final fantasy is always a plus!

 

That is a very cool mod. A bit over kill but still, very cool.

Either a mod to support more saves, or a translation mod. See if the switch changes the game from english to jap and vice-versa.

 

According to this page, the Panasonic MN4464-08LL is an 8KB SRAM chip, so this definitely looks like a save-doubling hack.

I love the idea, but I personally think that the PS1 version is probably better for this scenario. Memory cards are cheap .

 

well you can get halfway in the game on snes before you finish loading the first dungeon on psx

no seriously those psx ports were a disaster.
