Hello Guys, Someone very well skilled has done a new Super Mario 64 build, adding a lot of new worlds, new game mechanics, new Mario capacities, a playable Yoshi and many other features. Even if the game doesn't have the "Nintendo touch", the job done is just huge and very impressive ! Here is a link to a Kotaku article. http://kotaku.com/a-giant-super-mario-64-hack-that-reinvents-the-game-1787352921 And here is a link to download the game http://www.mediafire.com/file/8r4hrfib8arp1s7/SM64+Last+Impact.zip (Hope that a download link is allowed here). Enjoy
It is emulator compatible, so I suppose that it is everdrive compatible two Am I right to suppose a such thing ? I am not familiar with the Everdrive.
not quite. i know that rom hacks can do more sometimes, because they are not limited by the n64 hardware.
I've been following him on YouTube for a good year now, & this hack has been looking incredible. I am pretty excited to try it out today! Its got custom music, models with custom animation, new enemies, new abilities, a bunch of levels, & various other bits of ASM to modify the game code.
Well all you get from the readme is that it needs 8M of RAM. The "how to run this" tutorial only mentions emulators, so I wouldn't expect this to ever have been tested on hardware. But at least it isn't tied to a specific emulator('s version's quirks).
I just tested it with a Everdrive 2.0. And unfortunately it does not work, the screen just flickers a lot in various colors. (And yes I do have expansion RAM)
I really hope this isn't DMCA'd. I mean if he only uploads a patch he shouldn't have that problem right? It looks great tho. I can't believe it on N64. Mario 64 could have been so much better. Does it have a new HUB world and the same levels as original?
It will not run on everdrive because once you extend the rom to 24mb it shifts the MIO0 data 1 byte back or ahead.
It's already been determined this doesn't work on real hardware, so no, Mario 64 couldn't have been this much better. Still cool and a lot of effort went into this, just a shame it's emulator only.
It's just programmed poorly, that's the only reason it don't work on a real N64. It's not doing anything powerwise that a real N64 couldn't do.
This mod uses ASM. And a lot of it. Any heavily modified sm64 rom's will not play on the Everdrive or any flash cart for the 64. Mods which are expanded to 64mb from the original 8mb but without asm can work if you shift all the MIO0 data back one byte due to the extender. If you try playing it normally, the screen will just flicker and other random glitches will occur (Just as madsmaten had said).
If I patch it with Kyles Mario 64 ED patcher (http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=1253.msg17691#msg17691, wayback machine had a working DL), and force PAL I can get it to launch on my PAL N64 with expansion pak and 64drive. The intiial world in the castle runs but is super glitchy, entering a world turns to a slideshow with completely distorted graphics then crashes. Without patching the video is completely garbled after the initial splash screen. Potato video: EDIT: I should give credit to zfreeman on gbatemp for making me aware of the patcher
