I bought the Wal-Mart edition of Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Mario Advance 4 that included the additional 5 exclusive cards and I bought the series 1 and 2 packages of SMB3e cards. Series 3 and 4 were never released here, but I believe they were released in Japan. As a result, you can't complete the eWorld or collect all of the coins. I recall reading that the eReader format was cracked such that you could print your own strips with a high-DPI laser printer to print and load custom NES ROMs on the eReader or custom levels in SMB3: SMA4. You could also make and print backups. As I recall, the eCards were region-protected and the US eReader would not read Japanese cards. What I hope to do is get the Japanese series 1-4 and convert them to the US format. Does anyone have any information on this?
Here's that site / tools you probably need. Was going to check that some time ago but I'm still busy /w other things.
Unfortunately, all the links are broken. I'll try to contact the author. Thanks! Still gotta see if the Japanese cards are available.
if any one is interested, i have a battery save file for smba4 that has all e reader levels pre loaded into it. only problem is a couple of levels wont load, and obviously that doesnt help with scanning the item/ nes rom cards.
Strange, I just downloaded Nintendo e-Reader Dot Code Print v1.0 w/out any problems. Good luck anyways!
I loved e-reader cards, I'm sad they canned them so hard. I managed to buy all of the US Mario Bros. Advanced 4 cards from amazon for like $5 bucks so they are pretty common but some of the functions that were unreleased in the US are so cool~
@czroe there are 37 levels total, the 5 original mario level remakes, all of the american and japanese levels and 2 "pr" levels. i dont know what levels were unreleased but that is what my save contains
"PR" probably means "Promotional." The Wal-Mart-exclusive "Airship's Revenge" level was a promo level.
@czroe yes airships revenge is one of the promo levels. according to this website: http://web.archive.org/web/20050428040459/http://uregina.ca/~myers20s/mario html/elevels.html levels 11-30 were all unreleased so yes, my file does have the unreleased levels.
That would never fit. The ROM size limit is extremely low! I know. As far as I know, I was the first person online to even report the existence of it. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=1174058 It seems that I was also the first to point out that it was a "PR" level. I also broke some other news and got another game early: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=1190662&highlight= I was in a position to dump it almost 10 days before its release even though there were no public GC dumping utilities back then (a friend in Peachtree City had an internal scener tool). He would have gotten in trouble for leaking it to me and I would have gotten in trouble because the authorities would know exactly who released it (the news and scan blew up every deal site).
Not sure how, but I'm fairly sure that there is a way, as the website that CZroe linked to has a compatibility list for NES games.
