Now do this with the translated version of the star ocean ROM and a Japanese star ocean cart.

Man I would never be able to do anything like this! I Have The NTSC version of the game and only found out about all the issues playing it on a PAL system after I tried to play it through a converter. I have seen a mod online to hack the cart to let it work but not got around to trying it. Nice job!

SuperCIC gets around the problem without needing to modify the cart itself.

The cart mod is much simpler and easier for the inexperienced though.

Would there be room to fit a SPDT switch to flick between pal and NTSC lockout modes.

I succesfull modded a SuperFamicom cart of SMRPG with a 27c322 eprom. I added a ZIF socket so I can swap other SA1 games.
My question is: in table that shows mask rom -> 27c322 pin equivalence there are, in mask rom part, data address greater than D7. How it is possible? (I'm interested in this because I'm going to do a Starfox cartmod and I like to use a 27c322 bankswitched in four parts, if this tecnique is possible)

    I aswer myself.
Altought Super Famicom data bus is 8bit wide, SA1 chip can address in 16bit wide, so we can use a 27c322 eprom, that is 16 bit wide. Right?
    One last thing:
Super FX chip (Starfox) use too 16bit data bus?

    Hi.
This is an old thread but I'd rather continue here than start a new one.

I have a few SA-1 and SuperFX SFC carts that I like to replace their eeproms with MX29L3211 with the US versions.
What would be the right programmer and adapter to flash the 29l3211?
I am tech savy and would like to do it with minimal expense.

    Thanks!

I use a GQ4X with an adapter but I'm sure you can get an equivalent for a cheaper price.
If you are only going to be converting a few of them it might be more economical to buy them pre-programmed from someone near you.
You might also get people telling you not to go with the 29L3211 because of it's 3.3V maximum rating, Snes runs on 5V.

The issue is, there aren't many cheap programmers that support the chip.

The gq-4x does, but that programmer has a lot of weird and unresolved issues. I had one years ago and judging by their forum, it's not really improved.

The tl866 is a great programmer for the money, but no support for this chip.

You could get a homebrew/DIY solution. Sanni's cart reader/writer also supports these chips. But might be more than you want to spend in small quantities.

This is why I have continued to offer programmes chips for so many years. Despite it not earning all that much money and taking a fair amount of my time (pms, packing, shipping) and then dealing with orders that go missing (I don't see anyone lose money buying from me!).

It's more of a public service than for profit.

And a great service you do indeed!
Since the SD2SNES does not suppoer SA-1 and SuperFX just yet (if ever), and eBay sells these games for 50$ or more a pop, this is the only "sane" option for people who can solder.
