Strange that someone would fake this but I guess YouTube is easy money.

The biggest and most obvious giveaway is the performance of the game, as others have said. I guess whoever did it was using bsnes/higan on an old PC that couldn't handle it because that performance is atrocious. Also the frame "ghosting" or whatever you wanna call it. It looks like this was recorded at the wrong framerate then badly converted to whatever they output the video in. I'm sure there are grammatical errors in the Japanese speech too. Probably machine translated on top of the obvious TTS. It looks like that tape went through 5-10 generations of dubbing as well. Highly doubt that it would have gone through that many dubs without already surfacing. Plus why wouldn't you include the other 9 minutes of tape beforehand?

At least you tried, I guess.

I've restored TONS of old VHS tapes and that video was an obvious fake for me from the first frame - it's waaaaaay too blurry. And yeah, that unnatural voice that pops up in the middle while most videos of that kind usually have a lot of talk right from the first seconds.

This hack is cool because i think we will never see an actual Super Mario World Prototype and this comes very close when you compare it with the real beta pictures.
This video however sux and i am sure this video guy had nothing to do with that hack.

Seems like the most definite proof out of all, but maybe you overlooked it.

Oh wow. The thought of it being a hoax, much like that Sonic 1 hoax a couple of years ago, did cross my mind, but I didn't really think long about it.
A shame that this is a hoax. Well played OP, well played.

I'm almost bored enough to make a better looking fake than this just to show how easy it would be if you knew what you were doing.

It's bad text-to-speech, and the narrator even makes a mistake that a real human wouldn't (even with badly translated Japanese)

She says... "Super Mario Bu......razazu" which is obviously the TTS misinterpreting a linefeed like this:
    「スーパーマリオブ
    ラザズ」

Not to mention the intro text is in English. I mean, C'mon!

A poor hoax from someone with no knowledge of 1980s-era technology, culture, or language.

Wouldn't call it a poor hoax. Other than the text-to-speech which was the dead giveaway once Bramsworth pointed it out (I had no knowledge of it), even the dropping frames part can be somewhat explained.

Indeed. I didn't give the video a thorough watch yet because it never occurred to me that someone would do something so odd as faking old gaming footage. A bit of a let down for sure, but at least it wasn't ALTTP, then I might have been upset.
LOL I'd love to see it if you do. Bonus points if you record the hack from a SNES/SFC using a real VCR, then tamper with the tape to cause actual lines, video roll and distorted audio during playback. ;P

I almost fell for it, but then I saw the English text at the beginning.

Though I'm now in the mood to make a hoax video of my own...

If you understand japanese to some extent, when the narration kicks in you'll instantly know that's written by a foreigner or machine translated.

What is this "VHS Filter" people keep mentioning? The video doesn't look like it was being played on a VCR.
