I tried searching the forums for this game, I don't doubt it has been covered at some point in the past, though I could not find references to it using the search tool.

Was this game ever leaked? Was it ever even in a running state? I assume the screenshots were not native SFX chip code running but a PC mock-up. I know the game eventually saw a PC release, but the SNES version interests me.

I know the story goes that once Killer Instinct was begun, FX Fighter was shelved and then cancelled. I did have some issues of Super Play and Nintendo Magazine System with screenshots in, but unfortunately they were trashed in a move.

Considering Vortex was made for the SNES, a lite version of FX fighter was surely do-able I think =)

I just posted a shitload of camera shots of magazines (my scanner hated me in the very moment it mattered). So I'll just post the FX Fighter one (+my quick translation) here:

as far as I know the SNES version was shelved pretty quickly, work continued on the PC version which also had texture mapped combatants. There was even a "sequel" for the PC (more an updated version of the original iirc).

If I remember correctly, the game was shown at either E3 or the EDIT: ECTS show.

I think it was not far from completed. It might be possible Nintendo did not want this to get released. Another FX title Commanche also got cancelled after being long in development.

I should have some pictures of the Snes version of Comanche at home.

Also, the old box art for SNES Comanche which was featured in some magazine(s) contained a logo promoting compatibility for a "SNES LINK" cable/device.

Smash Bros? Not really, not by Sakurai anyway.

There was a planned SNES (no FX chip specific info) 2-d mascot fighter planned by Nintendo , but that's all that's known by official mouths.
