This is either Sonic Extreme, Sonic Saturn, or a new Sonic that went unreleased. The 3d Sonic kinda makes me think it ain't Sonic Extreme tho. Of course it could be Sonic R, but that model don't look like Sonic R Sonic.
Yeah, that's a pretty close model. It sounds like they reused the model from Super Sonic in Fighting vipers. Why waste the work?
This sort of information was always hard to rely on. I can recall magazines showing shots of that Sonic Ride demo that you can watch in Sonic Jam and saying it was Sonic 4. Seems to be another case here where Sega had this shot of Sonic and they just say it's the next Sonic game. Did Sega really directly make comment on the shot, or did they just make it up? Who knows. Surely looks like Sonic Fighters to me, though.
Well, the article says that sega showed them some sketches. You know they must have got some kinda info out of them while they were showing them sketches.
Sonic the fighters looks similar to the model but not quite. The unused code in fighting vipers arcade of sonic looks exactly like the model of "super sonic". Therefore since it never "really" made it into fighting vipers then people would not have known of this model and thought it was sonic xtreme. Sega is very good at deceiving the public. However I can see why a lot of people think this is a sonic the fighters model. It looks very similar and the best reason for this is am2 made fighting vipers and probably reworked the model that they never used in game for their upcoming arcade sonic the fighters.
Well, the article says that info would be revealed at E3 1996. And I looked up the issue of EGM that covers it and Sonic Xtreme is the only sonic game revealed. So this is probably info about Sonic Xtreme.
