    Hey Everyone,

So I opened my super ufo copier to check on its condition and I noted it has a big black package on the top left, over the regulator. Is this a capacitor, or is this a battery that might leak and needs to be removed?

Ah, probably answered my own question? The top of it has three scores on it. Probably for venting. Sounds like a capacitor to me?

Yes, that's a cap. Why would this unit contain a battery anyways? You're supposed to save to disk before unplugging the PSU.

Some of these copiers actually use a battery to save SRAM information. So over time, they just leak and wreck your main board. I opened up some other copiers as well and clipped the battery out on those to prevent that from happening (Some already started to go).

Hi...i am new here. By profession i am a hardware design engineer. As per your image it is the Capacitor only not battery for SRAM. As it is capacitor so no risk of leakage. But i am not getting your point of leakage of battery. Even if it is battery then still no chance of leakage because SRAM battery is of different kind.

Nicad batteries leak, ruining circuit boards.
    Capacitors leak, ruining circuit boards.

    I wouldn't lead with "I'm a hardware design engineer"

Ya, most of the batteries I clipped that day were in better condition than what Bad_ad84 posted, but I could tell some of them had traces of leaking already starting (powdery substance coming out on the ends).
