Just wondered if there has been any updates to make this device suck less? The lack of LFN and real time save not working at all is pretty annoying :\
I don't understand this. For a very long time people had to pay a shitload of money just to use backups from floppy discs. Now when people get an sd option (although not best on the market, but still really good) for a relatively small amount of money, they still complain.
It's because the Super UFO Pro sucks and there's better alternatives to it for not much more cash. Also it's advertised with fetures that plain just don't work (real-time save, ability to play SuperFX games etc). Really wish I'd spent a bit more rather than cheaping out on it.
I have one and actually don't mind it, it's sort of entertaining in its sad dated way. It lets me play most of my favourite games on real hardware and it was cheap-ish ($50-something). My biggest issues with it are the 8-character file names )I've been creating a re-named romset, but it's time consuming and boring). and the clunky save system. Also the music will drive you crazy, and whilst you can turn it off, the GUI settings aren't saved, so you know it will be back. I also suffer from some glitching in the GUI and some games. I suspect this is a CIC related issue, hopefully once I fit a CIC switch I will be able to confirm this. I actually applied the firmware update and it didn't cause any new issues, and definitely improves rom list navigation.
I sold mine and bought an SD2SNES. Would do it again tbh. The only thing I miss is the feature to back-up your original cartridges. That and the really neat old school menu the Super Ufo had.
Where is the fw located, if you have a programmer that supports the chip someone could make their own without the music
To get round the file name issue I used some software to rename all my roms with a 4 digit numeric code at the beginning (can't remember the name but can dig it out if needed), I then have a printed list next to my snes with which number relates to which game, its a lot easier than trying to decipher the 8 digit strings. The only thing I find annoying with mine is having to backup the game saves to SD yourself, and the fact it won't let you save over the original save file if you already had one. So first you have to delete the save backup, then create the new one. I actually don't mind the music! Ideally I would have liked an everdrive but as I wanted the DSP function I was not keen on having to destroy a cart to get the DSP chips, with the super UFO I have DSP working correctly using a cheap Drift Battle cart. If super FX and SA1 functionality gets added to the SD2SNES in the future then I may upgrade, but for now I cannot justify its price for the current supported enhancement chips.
