I was wondering if anyone here had information on the more uncommon choices of flash carts for the SNES? I've heard the cart like https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-SNES-Backup-Cartridge-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B007O3MWVG, for example, can theoretically run Superchip games off their SD card provided you have the right cart inserted on the top. So, say you want to run "Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension" but you don't have the actual cart, yet you have the rom. So you insert the cart "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" on top and ask the flash cart to run the rom and presto! At least that's what I've heard, but I'm having trouble finding any reliable information on carts like this.

Does it work this way? Does anyone know? And, if so, how come more didn't function this way because it seems like a pretty neat idea which would finally get rid of the incompatibility issues with SNES flash carts, provided you have the right physical games on hand.

It would also mean you could run games like Yoshi's Island with an enhanced soundtrack, if one exists? Provided the nest iteration of the SD2SNES adopted a feature such as top slot loading. Though, again, I have no clue if this is even easy to do or is just a pipe dream?

it doesn't work, had the super ufo pro8 myself. It's a nice flashcart with a rom ripper built in, but it has 1 flaw which is 8character name files. I know you can rename the games, but its tedious af

Even if it doesn't work on that cart, the idea can obviously work, I bet?

I believe this has been thoroughly debunked. It has something to do with how the chips communicate.

What's a "Superchip" anyways? The two games you mention contain an SA1, if that's the only chip you mean it won't work. But if you're talking about enhancement chips in general, DSP-based games may well work the way you described (depending on the copier used - I have no experience with the one you linked, but iirc the GDSF7 and/or SWC got special adapters to allow for just this).

Yeah, that's what I feared. That link doesn't describe a single "Superchip", but a list of all the possible enhancement chips found in various SNES carts. So the answer to your question is a definite "maybe, depends on the game", because the passthrough method works with some of those chips, but not others. This topic is not a simple as you think.

There was an old cart that did utilize a donor DSP chip if you plugged a suitable retail cart (like say Super MarioKart) into the top of it. So that was only for DSP games, which the Super Everdrive plays anyway.

However, nearly all other special chips work differently from the DSP. I'm very very general with this stuff, but the design of the other chips cannot work in this fashion. Someone with more expertise hopefully can answer, but ikari_01, creator of SD2SNES, explained this once.

Well... that sucks. I wanna get an SD2SNES, but I dunno if I really do until it can at least emulate the other superchip games.

Never gonna happen. From the FAQ:
    And from the status page:
That being said, 100% compatibility whould be nice but not totally necessary. The ST-018 for example is only used in a single cart - a Majhong game that you probably don't give two shits about. I recommend making a list of all the games using extra chips that you actually want to play, and then decide if you're better off buying an Everdrive or an SD2SNES plus those titles not supported by the flash cart of choice.
