So I just installed a SuperCIC in my SNES (thanks Bad_Ad84). It's a US version with board revision SNS-CPU-GPM-02. For the most part everything works exactly like I expected it to -- my US games still work and my Japanese games boot now -- with one oddity: my US copy of Yoshi's Island displays the "This game was not designed for your Super Nintendo or Super Famicom" message unless I start it in 50hz mode. It is then properly detected as a US cart and starts in 60hz mode with a 9 sec. delay before switching to 50hz mode. Is this normal behaviour, or did I do something wrong?

Does the game start up on a "normal" SNES? If yes, than it might be a problem with the connection to S-PPU2 pin 30. If the voltage level is undefined, e.g., due to a bad solder joint, while reading register $213f.

Yeah it works fine on a stock SNES. The PPU pins were two that I had trouble with, so that's probably the problem. Guess I shouldn't have used a single wire for them after all.

EDIT: Thank you very much, that was exactly the problem. I must have been more tired than I thought when I got to that wire, it was barely connected to any of the three points it needed to be.
