Looks very nice... although three questions... Why the JAMMA finger board connector as it doesn't give you any flexability (no pun intended...) on where you can put the boards over a wired connector on a finger board? As you are using 220V I would hazard a guess that you might be in Europe and have acces to SCART so why no RGB support? S-Video does look ugly, esp the colour bleed shown on the last picture of RBFFS with the two terries fighting, the colour of his jeans just bleeds into the sand. Why two ports for Arcade and Neo Geo when one would have done?
Wow that looks *very* nice. I was contemplating building one, but it would not at all have turn out that nice
That's really nice! I like the labels and the test/service buttons especially, along with the placement of everything. A slim cover or something might be a good idea for that fingerboard extension.
Thanks for your nice question 1. I designed Jamma figerboard because it hard for me to do Jamma using wire. I am lazy 2. I am stay in Thailand it use only 220V and does not has RGB Scart. I know RGB Scart is better but I don't have TV to support them 3. I designed two type of ports Arcade and NeoGeo because I easy to me to find NeoGeo Controller
That is by far the best design I have ever seen for a supergun I'm really impressed with your skills. How much did it all cost in the end?
Awesome work! I would also like to ask how you got the text onto the metal case? It looks like laser or maybe high quality printed transparent foil?
Very cool looking. But I highly recommend RGB out, or atleast Component. S-Video tends to suck. Also I'm not sure about your controls or how flexible they are, which is important if you play fighting games. Also the JAMMA fingerboard connector seems rather weird. You did get me thinking about my own, and it's reminded me if I store my boards internally I outta make vents and install fans. Edit: This post motivated me today to work on my own SG. Now all those cut pieces of wood have come together to make a box. A very big box. I still need to cut more holes in it before I can install all the components and do wiring. I've been thinking about airflow and where and how to cut vents and mount fans. Either way I'm closer to finally finishing this monster. I'll be happy when I do so I can finally play my arcade games again.
You can buy prewired JAMMA cables then it's just a 20 minute job to solder the wires to the finger board. I would feel uneasy about a stiff fingerboard as it would be too easy to knock out if someone hit the board. I see, I suppose that is true. But as the Neo Geo controller does have 3 unused pins why not just wire the 3 extra buttons to that or even 2 of them and the D button? I can't think of any reason why you would need a seperate connector unless you had some 6 button joysticks around that you wanted to use and were wired up very differently.
What are you talking about a little screen? I finished my own Supergun today. It's wired up with NeoGeo ports/pinouts plus using unused pins for buttons 5 and 6. I got one of my controllers rewired and working so it's all usable now. I still need to do the second controller, and I need to get an install a kick harness for cps1 and cps2 and midway games like MK2.
Hey, I was being serious - that is a great bit of work! I'd much prefer to purchase something produced by an enthusiast with an attention to detail than some stripped down "bare minimum requirements" kit from Maplins electronics
