    Hi There
I am about to start work on an arcade supergun (first for me). I had already desided to use a PC power supply for the 12 and 5 volts. What I would like to know is if I could use this: (sorry for large image)

Its an ITX 60w PSU from one of my Mini ITX setups. Would this be powerful enough to power arcade PCBs or 1 slot NeoGeo, or am I asking to much from 60W?
If anyone knows the Watage requirements for other systems like the MVS and CPS2 that would also be helpfull.

    Thanks:thumbsup:

60W should be enough for any reasonably integrated board, but you may run into problems without a -5V source. Neo Geo runs under 10W, and I imagine CPS2 is around the same as long as they aren't driving speakers.

Yes, I forgot about the -5 volt. I know PC PSUs provide -5 from the white wire on the ATX block, but I dont know if this ITX PSU does. The pin under the ATX block (under the White wire) looks like it does nothing. I might have to get the old multimeter out and check.

It'll work fine for more modern games (they tend not to need -5V, like the Sony boards) but older ones will lack sound. I used a PSU with no -5V line for a while on my Supergun, all my PCBs worked fine but with no sound (the -5V is usually only used for the audio amp). Your mileage may vary.

Thanks Stone and Calpis for the advice.
I have found an other PC PSU that will fit the case I will use. Its an old small form factor AT PSU with all the power inputs I need.

On the subject of sound, Is there a safe way of outputing the audio to the scart connector. I was planing to just use phono scockets and unpowered speakers, but if I can get it working through the TV it would be a bonus.

if you just need more power universal laptop power supplies are roughly the same size and go up to 105w.

With my Supergun audio goes to RCA phono plugs which I connect to a speaker system. I've never had any problems with it. But I wouldn't connect it directly to a TV, or if you do you need to turn the TV's volume to 0 every time you start up a game and slowly increase from there so you don't blow out the speakers or something.

You'll need -5v for many games like Mortal Kombat or CPS2's QSound. However CPS2 can be set to Mono audio over the JAMMA connecter and I believe it will work without -5v then. But I don't recall for certain on that.

Hi MottZolla. I think your right. I will stick with just the RCA sound. Things are going very well. I have finished the power and video systems and it all works great.

Sorry for the untidy room. Its running my 1 slot Neo-Geo Jamma unit fine. The game is Shock Troopers (bad timing for the photo)

The Image is even better than my MVS arcade machine.
I have also tested it with R-Type II PCB and my Neo-Geo 64 system.

Thanks for all the help guys.
