Hi All This is my first post  I was wondering if anyone know where I could get a super gun repaired/modified? I recently took my super gun to someone who is having trouble rewiring the pads to accommodate the Atomiswave 5th button. It also took ages for them to modify it and in the process they made a dogs dinner out of it. It's been a nightmare as we have been without our super gun for nearly 4 months! :crying: Please help!!
Superguns are basicly just a PC power, a Jamma connector, 2 Joystick ports and a RGB out connector. Its realy easy to modify, add buttons ect as long as your Joyports has enough unused pins. On the basic Jamma standard you only have 3 buttons. The extra buttons are usually an extra mini connector for the last 3 push buttons. Neo Geo probably had button 4 on the Jamma connector after push 3 on the schematic (each side) Jamma bords use common ground, so you only need to add 2 wires to make an additional button work (you need to steal gnd from one of the nearby pushbuttons in each joystick though)
Interesting, but his board's goosed and being told what it should be doing isn't much help to him. He needs a Supergun Dr., not a Wiki quote! If you are in the UK, AryssoR had (or still might have) a spare Vogatek Supergun, I noticed it on another thread elsewhere. If he can't help you repair your current one, he's got it covered! Trusted seller too ;-)
Not suggesting for a second that you were thinking of a sale - I knew you'd offer assistance before mentioning the Vogatek, I just thought I'd mention it because it would be a swift, simple and potentially cheaper solution if the offending S/gun is goosed by this guys mate and he's in the UK. If I were him, I'd be getting the guy to pay for it!
To be honest I wouldn't pap that vogatek off on anyone that didn't know exactly what they were buying, I can't really recommend those, even though I'm selling one!
The Vogatek is as much use with the Neo Geo / Atomiswave as a chocolate condom. You would need to undersolder the two unused pins 25 and 26 and then hack a pad to use the Vogatek connector and the two pins you've unsoldered from the PCB... I wonder why the guy hasn't thought of making a PCB that uses USB joysticks?
Sneaks into thread and asks I've got one of these - That hasnt worked for a while,I put it in the cupboard when I got my cab. Damn if I can fix it. When the power leads in, the green power l e d is fine, when I insert top cable at back of it all is fine to though when I insert bottom video cable in power l e d flickers like no man business ! Resulting in not working at all, my technical knowlwdge is as far as 'Oh there's the on switch lol' Any help would be thankfully recieved
Hello Wow! Thanks for your replies! I didn't think I would get any suggestions. I'm based in UK London. I wouldn't say it is 'goosed'. It's just the pads that need rewiring to have an atomiswave button five. We are using Neo Geo pads which are apparently easy to modify. As obviously the Neo Geo pads have only 4 buttons, we want to use the select button as this fifth button. If you do have an atomiswave to test it on, and you can rewire it to work, then I'd be more than happy to send it to you. Just to also point out, I don't have the expertise to modify anything myself... hence sending it to the crappy technician in the first place. Also, we have also thought about looking at new superguns to buy. I have heard of the Vogetek from somewhere... probably from another thread. But if I do purchase a new supergun it will need to be compatible with alot of different pcbs, boards, systems... I am open to suggestions..
Basically you want your neo-geo pads wired to have select act as button 5? It's easier than you think, the neo-geo pads won't need modified at all, it's just a case of connecting 2 wires to pins 26 (Player 1, button 5) and 54 (Player 2, button 5) of the jamma slot of your supergun to pin 3 of each controller port on the supergun I wouldn't need an Atomiswave to test it, I have a 6-button cart in my own 6-button Supergun already that uses the same pins for button 5. Parris does have one though, I saw it running Dolphin Blue earlier on today funnily enough  If you want to send me it i'll do it - you don't know anyone that can add the two wires for you? That's all it is, nothing particularly special
Ninty, I think you've probably got a wiring problem, either a wire's out of place or you've got a shorting connection. All of your connections are un-insulted at the pins, there should have been heatshrink on those. Has it ever worked? Also I wouldn't plug/unplug stuff while it's on
Yes, it has worked for ages. In fact I still have the 4 page instruction manual it came with when I bought it, it's a Uberia Supergun. I thought it would be a wiring problem but I'm no electrician lol I knew I shouldn't have took woodwork at school !
Best I can suggest is painstakingly checking each pin doesn't have anything making a connection between any of the pins, particularly on the power, sound and video wires
That's great, if you could do this for us. We are awaiting the results of a THIRD ATTEMPT fix from the crappy technician. Once we get it back and assess it we will certainly send it if it is still not correct. Is it ok to send you a private message with regards to this when I get it back? Thanks!!
