So I was looking through ebay and found this listing. It's an odd listing, since it appears to be an official SNES flashcart. I have a few questions.

Are these rare, or are they pretty commonplace?
Are there tools available to flash to them?
Do they work on conventional SNES consoles, or was there an adaptor?

    Thanks!

Ah, that's a Nintendo Power cart. The idea was you took that cart to your local games shop, plugged that into their transfer station, paid a cheap price and got a game loaded onto there. It's very similar to the way they handled Famicom Disks back in the NES era.

There was also a Game Boy version too.

They're rare outside of Japan, in Japan they're on the uncommon pile.

I don't think there is, no. Even then, they are outpaced by many of the modern flash cards and lack several features (such as SuperFX, DSP1 and a limited capacity) which reduces the usefulness of this device over a Super Everdrive or SD2SNES.

They work on conventional Japanese Super Famicoms, but you may have issues with region in the UK. The US requires an adapter mainly because Japanese Super Famicom cartridges don't fit in a US SNES.

You can find more details out at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Power_(cartridge) or at NESworld ( http://www.nesworld.com/snes-nintendopowercart.php ).

EDIT: Curses, beaten to the punch!

Nice, thanks for the help. I'll see if I can pick it up, though shipping may be a bit steep ;)
Edit: Also, I have both a PAL and a US SNES with the tabs removed, and my other JP games seem to run fine on it, I assume this one will too.

Actually, those carts are common in Japan. If you wanted one I could go out today and buy you one with ease.

I haven't seen an empty NP cart if that helps you any.
I myself have a Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 NP cart. I know a few other folks who have NPs such as Sutte Hakkun and Wrecking Crew '98. But it seems on my end that an empty one is harder to find than even one with a rare NP game.

You're confused with BS-X Carts, which certain people also know how to write but the information is not public to prevent people from erasing/rewriting valuable information from the little carts before they can all be dumped. With the NP carts, it's more likely they could take the already dumped NP games and put them only carts with no game or less desirable games and sell them as "rare" despite that they can produce a near unlimited number. Or maybe again they just don't want everyone rewriting the carts.

Besides there is no reason to with modern flash carts.

Yeah, Im aware they not the same, but it would be easier to fool someone that dont have such knowledge into buying a "rare game". Better than making a repro cart or fake proto
