Konami is releasing the xmen arcade from the early 90s on xbox live and play-station network with 6 player online multiplayer. These digital re-releases just get better and better. Here is fingers crossed Simpson's game finally gets a release. Also since tvs are widescreen now, now can see the game at it's full resolution without seeing the indent from 2 arcade screens being next to each-other.

1988-93 was such a great time for arcade gaming. You really had to be there to truly appreciate it. All the great Konami side-scrollers. Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat going head-to-head with each other. SNK kicking ass with the Neo-Geo.

Then Sega blew everything out of the water with Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing, and finally Daytona... Unless you were there you can't understand what it was like seeing those two games for the first time. They made everything look like the past.

There will never be a time like that again...

Nice :) I just loved the arcade version, heck as a young Marvel comics fan, back in the day (a bit late in the 90´s) I had the chance of playing that game (six player version) with a good friend in Tivoli, back when Tivoli had an awesome arcade section, which is now inhabited by a shabby aquarium. Also why I loved that game, was because it used animation clips from the stand alone X-men episode named Kittys pride :)

Awesome news. I'm rather looking forward to this as I haven't played it in years.

It'd be nice if IGS decided to release the Knights of Valour series for download. Or if Capcom graced us with Captain Commando, Knights of the Round and finally sorted out whatever copywrite issues are preventing an Alien vs. Predator re-release.

Ported? I don't think so. Almost certainly will be emulated. Most likely with stolen MAME code or just information on the arcade hardware from MAME. Just like every other re-release. It's still cool that it's coming to XBLA though. Could be a blast to play through that.

I remember it well, Virtua Racing especially. Just mindblowing.

The next big step I can remember was 3DFX on the PC, which was unbelievable. Really that was the last time that a graphical leap genuinely floored me. Games on newer consoles (GTA3 and Gears/Bioshock) were eye-opening, but not to the same degree.

The last time I experienced an eye opening experience with graphics was with the Crysis engine, where the only thing that made me feel/know it was computer graphics was the grass straws, which did not seem real. But other than that, then Crysis could have fooled me.

I actually beat this one when I found a machine that was set on free play.

    Looking forward to it.

Great news. I remember the big 2 screen arcade!

Let's hope other classic arcades like Simpsons, Cadillac & Dinossaurs, Captain Commando,... get a release as well.

So true. Every month had new stuff on arcades. Glad i lived that era

One of my most cherished and favorite childhood gaming memories. I remember looking forward to going to Chuck E. Cheeses just to play this game. My dad would give me a dollar (on a good day) and we'd play it as much as we possible could. It was my favorite game.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean...being a kid during that time was awesome. Maybe part of it was about not learning every minute detail of every upcoming game from the Internet. The X-Men game on XBLA? Awesome, but it better be 400 MSP like TMNT.

Does anybody know how the first two Konami XBLA collection disks sold? I've experienced enough DLC licensing problems that I'd prefer to get the X-men game on disk if I can help it. Konami has a good track record with standard media releases after the fact, but I'm worried that poor sales numbers might keep them from considering further disks.

Hope this thing is easier to play than Mortal Kombat 2, worst thing I ever downloaded for my system...my ass gets handed to me in no time at all.
