Sword of the bersek translation project

I'm trying to add the subtitles in the game sword of the bersek pal and ntsc.

Actually only the japanese version has subtitles, the european and us have only english voices and no subtitles.

I tryed to inject the english voices in the japanese game and it has works, you can have the english voices with japanese subtitles. But a part of the menus are in japanese so I try to inject the subtitles in the pal and us version with no result, the 1st_read.bin us and pal don't managed subtitles infortunally...

So I take the 1st_read.bin jap and I inject it in others versions the japanese script are in english now even if I have some strange things sometime like in the openning page but it's not serious. I put the japanese intro FMV in substitute of the pal and us, but probably I'll do a mix. here the version of the game :

I want to change the screen of options menu too, but I have no locate it, in order to import it from the japanese version. someone could help here too please ?

I'm busy for translate the subtitles beacause there are in japanese in one hand and in an other hand I don't know how I can open properly the subtitles files you have here :

all the english games in dc rarely have subs. does pal-fr or pal-ita have subs?

 

No the 1st_read.bin pal or us does nothing with the japanese subtitle.

Maybe if I can change the police it will works but I'm afraid they had removed the subtitle fonction in the 1st_read.bin unfortunally...
I try to write some us ASCII letters with hexedit in the files but nothing happen during the game, probably I had written in a worst place. you can try it, maybe you'll see a better result than me.

for me the first thing to do is to open the subtitles files and translate them to see if the japanese 1st_read.bin display them.

But I'm confident the messages in the begining of the game and for exit a game in red caracters are in correct english.

In order to continue how the game is managed. I put the 1st_read.bin pal in the jap data. The result looks well at the start screen, but in the options, there no more subtitle choice you can't select yes or no. So it confirm, the jap 1st_read.bin only managed the subtitles for sure.

So I keep the 1ST_READ.BIN JAP and all datas as I can keep from the pal version.
except the logo and the warning at the beginning of the boot, everything is in english now.

I have to change the flag of the ip.bin in order to be able to boot the game from everywhere. And I wish to do a mix between the jap intro video and the english intro sound. I share this last game since I have finished.

Now I can focus clearly on the subtitle but I don't know how I can continue... I'm almost sure now the subtitles are not in the files I gave you... I don't know where are they in the game files...
I try to repack the with only the 1st_read.bin jap only, all of the rest of the datas are from the pal version (I rename the MA_1A.AFS, MA_2A.AFS and MA_3A.AFS from the english voices in 1B, 2B and 3B) and I have always the japanese subtitles... So in one hand there are in an AFS file or in an other they are in the 1ST_READ.BIN. If it's in the 1ST_READ.BIN, I don't know how I can open this files...

 

The long subtitle of the Japanese version is in the.TEX file
The.TEX file is actually a PVR picture pack

Note that the subtitles are in the Alpha layer of the picture

Do you know how can I open the .TEX file for having your picture ? and how I can save it in the PVR format ?
I have found an tool with png format, it looks is the better format for having alpha layer

I can open the PVR files and convert it in png format.
But how can I extract the PVR files in the TEX packs ?
May you tell me more about how you have done please ?

 

You need to manually enter the file header of the PVR, or write a small program yourself

 

It's possible to replace the kanji by european alphabet.
Because the subtitle are in a picture.

But I'm not japanese and I don't know how should I put them in google translate for example...
So if someone have an idea for that, it's welcome ^^


For now and probably some weeks I'll be focus on shenmue II french translate with english speech.
