System 16 webpage down

Does anybody know what's going on with System 16? For those of you that don't know, it is (or perhaps was) a website detailing the hardware and software of various arcade platforms.

It hasn't had any updates in about a year, which is itself upsetting. I just tried going there today and it appears to be down. It all seems very ominous. I hope it doesn't shut down because I really love that site and it's my primary source of information on arcade stuff.

 

I don't know the site but I did a quick whois query on the domain and it seems that it expired 2 days ago. It is now saying next expire / renewal is on the 2008/11/06. So its possible that someone else grabbed the domain if it was not the originally author that renewed it this week.

In that case it would end up as everything.

 

I too share your concern as it happens to be one of the few places with detailed arcade motherboard spec & information. For what it's worth I had also noticed as it went down whilst I was researching something. Clicked to move pages and nothing happened. Haven't got any contact info for the site owner, but with the new expire date I hope that means it will return.

 

great site but i too wonder why it has pretty much been abandoned for well over a year?

 

The owner of it said that he had no time to update it anymore due to his work and family. This was well over a year ago.

Dear god please don't let it get taken over by some porn site. Please grab the domain back System16!!

 

Someone buy it or just get a hold of the content from the curator for archival purposes.

 

I hope it goes back online. It was such a great place for information about arcades.

 

I miss it already Where else am I going to know what Shmups to download on MAME?

 

When domains expire they are NOT available to buy again for atleast 6 months.

The country's registrar is required to try and contact the owner - this takes months to do.

If after unsuccessfully contacting the owner then it becomes available.

So it's probably still available to the owner.

 

Well, it's back now anyway for those who didn't notice. Phew!

 

Yay! I really thought it was down. We should all e-mail him and give him encouragement for keeping the page updated.

 

I noticed this yesterday, what a shame...

I dont think theres any other arcade site as complete as system16 was.

Oh right, it's online again! I was really pissed off, it's the best site in the category (and let's hope it can be working for a long time ^_^)
