system disc 2

hi i have sonic beta i have got the system disc 2 and i wait unit its says complete so then i put in my beta gd-r and it reboots the system and does not load my gd-r what can i do

 

It's possible the disc you're using is the wrong region for your console, but I'm not sure if the System Disc 2 disc doesn't work like an import boot disc. If it is region locked, the only thing you can do is modify your Dreamcast's region or get a Dreamcast of the correct region.

 

If the region of the game doesn't match the region of the console, the game won't boot. System disc 2 doesn't disable the region protection.

 

Thanks for confirming, NaOnak. :thumbsup: And just to clarify, it's the game disc that needs to match the console's region. The System Disc 2 disc is region free.

 

Also, note that no Systemdisc2 backup that can be found on the web works. It seems it relies on a psecial security ring or something, I don't really know but they don't works!

burned copies work for some people but i cant get mine to work would some one lemme know how to burn this disc?

Something tells me there might be a way to fake it, (although I never tried it)
basically if the system disc backup does not work because the disc lacks the security ring, all we would need to do is to have a disc in the drive that does have it, this can be done by putting an original in the drive and running the system disc 1st_read.bin through the BBA or the coder's cable. It might then work.

Another way (not sure it works if the check is also GD firmware related) would be to run a patched devkit bios on the box (either solder it in, or find a way to get it run through software (patch the bios binary/entrypoints to run it from a disc) I did not look into that yet either (not enough free time) but if anyone wants to look at those suggestions he is most welcome to.

I wonder, does anyone have a GDI dump of the system disc2 arround ? I looked and only found ripped versions of it (aka patched to run from lba 17000/17002)

Yeah but they most likely never tried it with a real gd-r.

Belokk released a version of this disc that end up being non-working.
I also made my own version that has the same problem.

The disc boot and reboots the console so you can "boot" a gd-rom ; but it don't works with gd-r.
