I will be completing this project soon, it is a commission for a tabletop N64 portable which can be used as handheld too.

I will post the link to the worklog when the project is completed, following which the guy who commissioned this system also wants a SNES system too.

This system took a fair bit of frankencasing but the result is nice.

Flash photos nighttime, so photos never come out great.

Although I anticipate this N64 system being completed before the end of the month, following which i'll upload a video of it; the SNES will probably take about 3 months longer to make; after that i'll make a small amount of other systems for sale if anyone is interested.

Using quality speakers (actually from a Yamaha sound bar), decent stereo audio amp, 5" screen.

I need to install low LED voltage regulator, d-pad and controller board.

The system is separated in two halves, connected together by two pin headers only.

How much would it cost me if you made me one (I don't have the funds atm but I would definitely be interested in buying one in the future)?

    Thank you all!

It was going to leave posting the worklog page on my website until the project was completed, however what the heck - here it is:

    http://bacman.co.uk/anthony-commission/

There you see, it originated from a Grandstand Scramble game, the front was cut out completely and remade. A 5" screen is the largest you can get in the casing realistically, however is good enough.

I'm not doing more handheld units as they are a pain to make, can be less reliable and also the tabletop design looks I think far nicer anyway.

Even though the design takes much less time to build, you are still looking at about 3 months work roughly.

As the question was asked, the cost of such commissions are: http://bacman.co.uk/n64-commissions/

Both customers so far have been from USA; and the current buyer wants both an N64 system and a SNES system, so the SNES system will be built after this one for him, to look similar.

It will be interesting to see if I get any more commissions after this one, as of course the market for such units has somewhat shrunken over the last months and years.

No, this is 1 player only, using internal controller only; no benefit in having external controller when the controls are so close to hand.

That is also true for official N64 controllers, or third party ones too. The original controller was designed to play Super Mario 64, however the "C" buttons are used heavier in other titles, and positioning of those buttons is not great in those circumstances either even on the official controller. It is what it is.

it would just be cool to be able to use whatever controller you wanted, say the Ascii Wheel for Mario kart

you never know he might like that idea as well

why did you use a temp barrel jack connector instead of a panel mount one?

So I could include the male jack with the system so he can easily connect a transformer, 7.2v - 12v (rated 2 amps or more) to the system and not even solder anything, just screw the wires to the plug and run the system off mains as alternative to battery packs.

    Thanks.

I know some modders have used similar casings for the PI or similar, but not to my knowledge for original console hardware.

Everything works fine so far, step I am on at the moment is wiring up the controller, i've removed the memory card port so can relocate it, removed parts of the board that needed trimming.

Yes, a reasonable amount of hotglue used; superglue is used where can however hotglue works in places where superglue doesn't and also reinforce in some places where does.

The original rubber pads for the buttons were not reliable enough, so changed them for reliable ones. Secured them in with a thick coating of lovely hot glue. Trimmed the controller board and wired it up. Apart from relocation of the memory card port, the low voltage LED circuit and testing, system is pretty much completed.

Apart from making a video now, the system is completed. Installed low voltage LED circuit, relocated memory card port, etc.

no I mean internally... A panel mount one would have slotted in nicely
