Figured some HW nuts would like this. I've yet to see a decent Type-X game, and I've played or seen all the shooters and Half Life 2. Meh. Source: gamengai
Type x development is very inexpensive, but they asked for a list of people on team who had at least 5 years experience before sale. Who with 5 years experience is going to make a small market arcade game. HL2 seems stale and an effort that will be DOA.
The cabs are huge, and cabs are traditionally expensive in Japan when buying new. Sega's Net City I believe retailed for close to 400,000 yen new. I could see there being a discount for these if you buy 8 of them, but they will not be 150,000 yen each. Several companies in Japan. Cave & G.Rev come to mind (Cave is even on the Type-X partners list, even though they've yet to make a 3D arcade game). Warashi's got a new Naomi game coming out. Cave's games always do really well, but they're still low-key. It's crap, and I kind of enjoyed HL2.
Not sure what the "list of qualified people" means. My price tag was pure speculation, based on prices of other hardware. Then again, $3800 is by no means cheap, especially when you're supposed to buy 8 of these damn things. The ironic thing about this is that the boards are by far the most expensive when they come out. Standard arcade games these days range between 180,000 yen for Naomi and 250,000 yen for Cave. Type-X is in the 300,000 yen area.
How exactly do they quantify that? I'm curious how they would find out your employment history... that's not normally the kind of information i would give out to my competitors.
You need to provide a list of games, and I suppose they check some sort of artists union or search online? $3800 I was not going to bother, esp as type-x seems at a wrong price point fot arcade vendors.
