Hey guys, i've discovered this awesome PC game pad that i'd found from the site's thread here: http://kbtalking.cool3c.com/article/7507 it's like an official Sega Genesis/Mega Drive controller but made for ibm pc via MS-DOS machines So what do you think of that awesome early 90's tech made by no other than the Taiwanese themselves? P.S was their ever a PC game controller that looked exactly like the one in the pictures came overseas or made in america? Thanks! P.S.S And there's also a Famicom honeybee looking controller pad made for PC gamers as well
The closest I know of is something like this http://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-Gen...TF8&qid=1407297517&sr=8-1&keywords=genesis+pc Retrobit also made a USB controller that looks like a 6 button Genesis pad. Unfortunately most of the PC controllers of the time were either modeled off the SNES controller (and later PS1) or something like the Sidewinder.
Looks like it outputs the signals from the controller to the keyboard input? Probably got around some of the issues that Gamepad based controllers had at the time. Used to have a Garvis Gamepad controller that had a fully functional d-pad, two regular buttons and two auto fire buttons that really annoyed me. Couldn't use any emulators at the time with that controller and ended up using DPad Pro and some wires to rig a SNES controller to my printer port. So long as you didn't need to print anything it was great.
That joypad in the first post link is actually a rip off mold from the Competition Pro controller and yes, that was a shifty controller. That's why the Base of this one have a rapid fire option on the mold but no actual switch. They just didn't bother to add it or.remove the text from the mold they ripped off
Well actually believe it or not this controller can actually be the predecessor of all of those offical controllers as pc gamepads. For starters it came out around back in 1990 by the company Softstar (a taiwanese PC game making group) that i think were made in mind for their games.
way back in the mid 90's I had a box that would plug in to the keyboard serial port which then allowed you to use SFC pads on the PC. Basically in converted the SFC buttons to keyboard strokes. It worked very well for emulators and even quite a few PC games. You could plug up to 2 official SFC / SNES controllers in to the box as well as the keyboard. I wish I had kept it now and it would sure beat using those crappy SFC USB knock off pads.
It should work with any official sega genesis controllers since the ports are the same as the joymouse clone ;-) and yeah it requires the card and software for to be able to use it.
Eh, since I prefer the Genesis pad to the two I don't love them. But I'm pretty sure the d-pad/joystick is mapped to the Genesis d-pad, and the buttons are A and A and B on the controllers, I'll have to check.
Is it possible to map the keyboard buttons via to any of your game controllers? like for an example, if i wanted to play one of those computer jrpg type games or games that doesn't have a Joystick option on the game itself could i do that without having to use the keyboard except for when i'mma need the mouse for certain parts like dialog, etc...
If you mean making a button on your controller tell the computer its hitting a keyboard key instead of a controller button, then yes. Download a program called joytokey. Edit: It will also let you map the mouse to an analog stick, if the controller has one.
Awesome! Never knew something like this existed before :-D i'd wonder if there's one for MS-DOS so i can use it on DOSBox Wii?
