only thing that make it look suspicious, IMO, is that Karsten is just written there without fitting it to the shape of the helmet (hope you can understand what I want to express ) but if you fix that I wouldnt be able to identify ist as a fake
I think what you mean is that the word Karsten looks two dimensional and does not conform to the three dimensional shape of the helmet? I had to look a bit at it but it does show up more like a rubber stamp than something applied to a spheroid.
It is meant to be a picture of the late great F1 driver Ronnie Peterson in his final 1978 season at Lotus. The two things wrong with the picture are the fact that Karsten has photoshopped Karsten on it and the other thing which threw me for a minute was the fact that it is not Petersons face, in fact it is the late great Aryton Sennas face as he has those distinctive eyes, I will hazard a guess that the picture if from his Lotus days...
photographically, the lighting inside the helmet is totally off. The luminance and possibly the DPI of the two pictures differs significantly as well.
To me tjhe text isn't that bad but the face just looks so wrong. Like others have said, the tone and lighting is not right. Plus, what has happened to his nose area?
yeah i didn't put much effort in it (lazyness :gravedigging it's a fast job to check on reactions... I think it took me something like 40 mins no more I'll take this as a compliment since those are my eyes Indeed they do the shopped part is from a picture of me taken by my brother at the beach whell the nose is like that in the original too thanks for the heads up guys! i'm trying to come out with some good fakes, and asking other people to check on themis a great way to improve
The "worn out" parts on the Karsten text don't look the same as on the John Player text, which is kinda distracting.
The first thing that caught my eye wasn't the Karsten text but rather the face. It is smooth, weirdly lit, and flat. The rest of the image is more grainy. Still, I'd have to say it's a massively better attempt than I'd ever be capable of. Good work.
The eyes are not looking at the camera but slightly to the left. Kinda creepy IMO. Also the squint looks a little weird in the right eye and the right hand side of the face is unusually shiny. Well the whole face is but that side is more prominent. The nose is a little squashed but if it's like that anyway from Rugby or whatever NP. Also the eyes will normally be higher up within the lid IMO but I only tried half a dozen helmets and didn't look in the mirror much I still have at least 2 helmets I can maybe do a pic in the morning for comparison. At their current position you would have to have a huge forehead: P
Really, at a quick first-glance there isn't anything too wrong. The problems are little things that the average guy wouldn't notice without some serious thought. If you hadn't set us up for criticism most people would have said "whoa, cool!" I do agree that the face should be higher-up in the helmet and the lighting is a bit funky unless the photographer was using supplemental lighting, which would obviously be highly unlikely for the original shot.
A new version i put togheter for fun Corrected the grain, the lightning, made it BW in newspaper style and added FAAAAAAAAAAKE rain... your toughts are welcome as usual! Uploaded with ImageShack.us
