Hi, is there a Tapwave Zodiac emulator available? Now I know that the system flopped but I would like to check it out since it was kind of cool looking console.
Right now, there's next to no PalmOS emulators (at least that I know of). MESS does have a small selection of Palm PDAs, so maybe they'll get around to the Zodiac eventually.
Palm Did infact release a Palm OS emulator which only emulates m68k Palms but PalmSource did later release a Palm OS simulator which simulates ARM Palms (5.x.x).
Yeah I was just reading up on that a bit. Seems like everything 5.x doesn't look too promising right now. I've found StyleTap, but for one it's closed source/commercial and doesn't officially support the Zodiac, and second, I can't tell for sure if it's an emulator (seems to be... but I'm not 100% positive) or rather an abstraction layer for Palm devs to make it easy to port their stuff to Android/iOS.
StyleTap runs PalmOS 5 apps it's kind've like doing the bleem! (remember that?) approach, you know, you can run apps without a copy of PalmOS. And I personally tried it myself and my thoughts are: It's limited in options, It's expensive ($50.00! for an unfinished and/or dead emulator.) and it's a pain to install apps.
Funny. I have a Tapwave Zodiac II. It was way ahead of its time. Also it was PALM! Haven't used it for a while, but I believe it even had rumble. Most of the 'best' games are homebrew and leaked betas, which were never published. Stuff like Tomb Raider.
Duke Nukem Mobile was a great version of Duke, had different levels and supported the rumble feature.
Duke Nukem Mobile was a totally different game. It was subsequently ported to j2me. And I think there was actually a real port of Duke3D.
I know I'm Zombifying this thread, but I still have both of my Zodiacs somewhere. Great little machine. Shame the PSP was announced, that pretty much well killed it. That and the fact that it had a 2d accelerator, rather than a 3d one. And not much quality 3rd party support. And the analogue controller was sometimes temperamental.
Wow lucky of you to get 2 of these. Are they still working? I was drooling to have one of these. There used to be one being sold on amazon recently but its gone now. Back then the only one I saw in stores here in my country were N-Gages but that's a different topic altogether.
Hey jdog320 - I got them both mega cheap when the device failed sales-wise (with all the official games). There are some on ebay. Just look out for three main issues with the Zodiac:- 1) The analogue nub - they sometimes had serious calibration issues - especially after being charged. 2) Ropey shoulder buttons. 3) Charging port was not the best - get a dock instead as this helps with issue number 1 as well. Both of mine are still working fine. If you do get your hands on one, then check out these websites:- http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/zodiac.cgi http://zodiacstuff.sourceforge.net/index.html - some links are broken http://www.theoldcomputer.com/roms/index.php?folder=Tapwave/Zodiac Virtually every piece of Tapwave Zodiac open source software released is there (some really nice emulators - like Little John and ZodNEO). And check out this for fixes if you need them:- https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Tapwave_T2907US_Zodiac_2_Troubleshooting Also if you get one, the chances are you will need a replacement battery - a couple of dudes have them on ebay.
